I'm not a long distance runner like you guys, 5 or 10k is enough for me when I go out a few times a week. lsr runs are like torture for me, so my max distance is never going to be longer than HM at any stage. I'll be lucky to complete that in under 3 hrs

Tried golf, about 15 years ago.  Tried and tried for a few months.  I have the wrong temperament!  Shame really, I can see that it could be very relaxing way to exercise.

I prefer long distances.  Would sooner run a Half Marathon than a 10k.  I always feel i have to run faster in 10k's. I haven't cracked the sub 60 yet for a 10k.

5k parkruns kill me cos i have to go twice as fast

That's pretty much what I've been through, always trying for PBs, running 10Ks at full tilt, throwing up over the line, to knock 7 seconds off a PB.  There comes a point when you can't go faster, then you get older.  That's how I moved up through the distances.  Now I don't worry about times, I just look for scenery or a good experience, somewhere I haven't been, or somewhere I like, or something a bit different.

That's what i do Canute.  Last year i did Southend on Sea Half.  It was up and down the seafront 4 times.  Great pb course but i hated it and ended up walking by mile 8.  Have since done Bristol and Cardiff and loved them because of the scenery.
