we've all thought about the bus/bike/scooter/hands and knees option 20 miles into a marathon!

while we're on the subject of sporting stories - this is quite good too:

HUGE well dones to CB and Mark A on their shiny new marathon PB's

JFDI Many thanks, yes I was very chuffed and even managed to shave an unofficial minute or so off my 20 mile pb. However, when I rang Lesley at the end to tell her my time it turned out she had been trying to copy the old Pope and ended up kissing the pavement outside the Rijksmuseum with considerable force and was in hospital with a bashed nose, broken elbow and a badly bruised leg which left her hobbling for the rest of the trip. Then yesterday the tram we were travelling in was involved in a crash with a car, an eventful weekend we won't forget in a hurry!

Oh poor Lesley - glad you're home safe x

Folks, does the 20 fill up ever?  I'm wondering whether to do that or go for some LDWAs... but don't want to sign up for lots of races early as, on my previous track record, I will get injured!  I'm running well at the moment and comfortably knocking off 6-8 mile every other day training routes and want to keep that consistency going through the winter.  I've got to stay sensible though and not push the pace - easier said than done.

Morning btw!

PSC as I am race entry clerk you will be able to leave it till February!  It gets pretty full and there will be no entries on the day.

Welcome back!

PSC  although I love the lDWA events, as you know, your race is gonna be on the black stuff so I would think at least one 20 miler should be done on tarmac.

As far as pace goes I very much subscribe to the LSR at race pace so if your longest run in a week is a 12 miler you should still only run it at your Marathon pace even though you probably could go much quicker.  The thought process behind this is partly muscle memory partly pace learning and definitely less risk of injury.  I know some coaches do not follow this idea but it works for me and seems to work for all those that ive coached and written training plans for.

oops just read back a bit  Bill I hope Lesley is on the mend

Thanks Mark. She is on the mend but it will be a slow job. Fortunately no cast, just a sling but it means she cannot drive and as she puts it, you don't realise how many things you need to use both hands for. We are getting there and she is able to do a little bit more each day.

the last time I did i was overtaken by all of the cups from the last water station!   Still it was great fun!

I was out running today on the seafront between Herne Bay and Reculver when I was overtaken by a man on a large unicycle. I caught him up a short while later when we got to the long sweeping road that goes up steeply to the Downs. He got off but told me that with the right calibration he can actually ride up it. Anybody else encountered anything odd while out running?

i saw a man walking a small pig on a lead on the prom near the caravan park in swalecliffe once - and i once bumped into a real wild boar when running in Portugal.
