Exams are a total waste of time. They favour those able to cram or bullsh*t and do not reflect real life. They also cause unnecessary stress. A better form of assessment is ongoing course work and/or practical assessment.

Thanks peeps, I have been up to my neck in statistics all afternoon (whilst lying in the sun obviously).
Exams start next week and am dreading it. Agree that coursework is better though, and have had good marks so far. Since I haven't done an exam in 9 years I don't really know how I'll do!

when I finished my degree back in the olden days I vowed never to take another exam in my life. and stuck to it. yippee.

PS - has anyone ever done a study as to why the nice weather ALWAYS coincides with exam time?? did in my days as well. enjoy being cooped up indoors all!!

my dear fellow students!
it is with great pleasure that I say my degree doesn't have exams! I have never heard so many happy people as when our class were told this! In fact it has been the only highlight of my course!

So for those of you suffering ... all the best i hope that the exam rooms have air con!

I just have to mark exams.

Problem with coursework is ensuring that no copying has occurred, but the more I think about it, the more I can relate to the "exams are bad" argument.

Before I sat my finals I found out that the previous years' papers were available in the uni library. So I studied them, worked out where the questions were coming from, prepared my essays in advance and memorised them the night before. Worked a treat. Also, I don't get exam nerves. My first was due not to a sparkling intellect but cramming and a dash of bullsh*t. There were others on my course who should have got firsts but ended up with 2.1 or 2.2. That's why I think ongoing assessment is better.

Anyway, good luck to all. Whatever you're sitting. Glad it's all over for me!
