Is it right for the press to post photos of Kate's rack?

Yes - its similar to Harry in Vegas - Freedom of Speech and all that, If she gets them out, she knows the risks that they will appear in the press.

IF she didnt want to risk photos appearing then why go topless?

If I were the future queen of England, I'd have kept them covered too.....

When Kate saw the pictures of Harry's tackle in the press she apparently said to one of her mates "I think one's married the wrong prince"  

What can they do about it - the photos were taken by a French photographer and published in a French magazine, now geopgraphy is not my strongest subject but I am pretty sure that France is not part of the UK and Kate and William are not part of any French royal family - so there is nothing they can do about it. The media is full of topless/bikini pictures of celebrities so why in France would this be any different?  AT the end of the day, if she gets her t*ts out she can, unfortunately perhaps, expect to have them photographed and published - she is after all just another celebrity in France.

At the end of the day all I see is a bunch of grubby little media types going 'ooh look at her tits / his nob, this will sell some papers'. Its soft porn and titilation (excuse the pun!) for people that don't have the guts to buy real porno mags.

They have quite strict privacy laws in France, so she should be able to pursue the magazine for damages. 

I guess the magazine felt that the increased sales would outweigh the risk of having to cough up a big pay out.  They probably considered that Kate would not want to drag it through a French court, too.

She was in a private place, but nonetheless I would have thought twice, or three times, about going topless given the risk of scumbags with long lenses and the sad sacks who will buy the magazine.

Not saying it was right to publish but you'd think these royals would be a little more media savvy than they seem to be? Eg everyone nowdays has a camera phone and you will be followed everywhere by lowlife scum with telephoto lenses so just don't get your bits out!! They can moan and say well we should be able blah blah blah. I'd quite happily swap not being able to get my tackle out for the rich privileged pampered lifestyle they have (esp Royals at our expense).

I am speaking through ignorance here, so someone please feel free to pop along with facts, but....

Is there not a security issue here? If you can get her within range of a long-range lens, would you be able to do it with a firearm?

Should anyone, paparazzi or otherwise, be able to get that close to a member of the Royal Family?  What is private for Wills and Kate?  Are they allowed to ditch the bodyguards when they are on 'private time'?

I don;t know the answers.  I am just putting my thoughts down here

Really?  I wouldn't want to have that level of scrutiny all the time, for ever, no matter how rich and pampered I was.

Schmunkee, their security would have to check every tree, every building, in quite a large radius, everywhere they ever went in order to completely remove the possibility of a sniper.

They were in a private apartment, relaxing on holiday and shouldn't have to be captured on camera by some grubby lowlife intent on making a few bob. Different if they had been on a beach or out in a park, but they weren't.

I think I'm in agreement with those who say the press shouldn't publish; this was a private situation, on private property, and the photos could only have been taken by a telephoto lens.... quite different to if it had been on a public beach.

If you take the stance that anyone in the public eye is fair game, even in a private situation, then they'd have to be on constant guard even in their own homes for fear of some pap with a long lens through the window.

And the French do have quite strict privacy laws which can be applied to anyone in the public eye.... a French lawyer speaking on the beeb today said that, even in a public area, privacy laws would still apply if it was clearly a private situation eg. a celeb relaxing on a public beach with their children.

tbh i've never been less interested in news about topless photos.

It is very sad that a newspaper will employ a photograher to get these shots because they know it will increase their circulation.  FFS if you want to see a set of t1ts there are a million places where people will show them to you, whatever happened to newspapers that had news stories.  Then the BBC have it as a head story, never mind the erupting hatred spreading across the Middle East.  See you've got me started now...
