Julian Assange is now seeking political asylum in the Ecuador embassy in London to avoid answering questions about sex offences he is suspected of committing.

The man is a coward

There may be more to it ...  but there probably isn't.

It may not be the sex charges he is afraid of but ultimately getting deported to the USA, tried for espionage and put to death. Considering some of what he has published and that it is likely that people may have died as a result of it there is a real possibility of this happening to him eventually.

I am neither defending nor supporting him. Were it as straight forward as 'sex offences' I would agree he is a coward but it may not be so straight forward.

Not with him just with any suspected sex offender who abuses the legal system to avoid being prosecuted. As for him being shipped off to the States the Swedish goverment have already given reassurances he won't be  !!But why trusth those evil Swedes !

Never trust a Swede.......

Or Turnip !

hey......we're not all evil! Admittedly I'm only a 1/4 swedish but come on...I'm quite nice....

He should be sent to Sweden to answer the charges against him

And did he really think that embarrassing the American government wasn't going to have consequences?  He's a coward and a fool.

If he is given asylum in Ecuador, all his chums who put up the £240,000 bail will lose their money.  I wonder how they feel about that?

Apparently going to the Ecuadorian embassy has breached bail conditions and he is facing arrest imminently...

I wonder if Equador has an extradition treaty with either Sweden or the US. How carefully did he have to look to find a country that would fit that criteria.

He cant be arrested whilst inside the embassy tho

Telegraph says that Ecuador does have an extradition treaty with the US.

Maybe he didn't do his homework!

Have little sympathy for his "supporters" who put forward £20,000 each to secure his bail but a report in the Independent  states that they will appeal on the grounds that they didn't think he would skip bail !

"Sarah Saunders, a personal friend of Mr Assange’s, made the biggest pledge of money towards his bail.

The catering manager, from Kent, offered a contribution of £150,000 towards the £200,000 security demanded by the court."

In addition to coward and fool, I'd say he's a complete and utter shit.

I would have thought that Ecuador has a lot closer ties to the US economically that it would put ahead of pissing them US goverment off for a suspected sex offender

Julian Assange can't be arrested while he's in the embassy, but he'll be nicked as soon as he sets foot outside it. So how's he going to get to Ecudor?

Amusing he's imprisoned himself in order to avoid going to prison.

What a twit.

I'm not 100% up on the whole case etc, but is there not a slight massive risk that the whole charges are trumped up, bearing in mind the site he runs! Wouldn't exactly be hard for a huge government to completely blacken someone's name and invent evidence!!

I'm amazed someone hasn't taken him out already to be fair. He leaks some dammning stuff.

"is there not a slight massive risk that the whole charges are trumped up..."

That's what courts of law are there to decide. Sadly he doesn't want to go near one.

What a twit.

Why would he need to go to court. Being who he is, would be punishment enough.
