Cats kill vermin.

If you were a sailor in the 18th century you would have appreciated the ship's cat that stopped the rats and mice having a go at your already meagre rations.

They set the benchmark for cool, that other animals can only aspire to.  Simples.

And try and tell me this sort of behaviour isn't infinitely more beneficial to mankind than whatever the fuck wasps get up to...
