From a runner & watching it I'm not sure you can You'd have to know London very well to nip through the streets that's have no barriers & few people in the crowd & you'd have to be blooming quick to nip through your short cut which makes me think if you are that quick just run it I thought ever mile was recorded & could be followed by your friends etc

1. run to mile 13-14.
2. pretend you have pulled out of the race.
3. cross via an underpass.
4. pretend you have been for a poo.
5. rejoin the race at mile 22.

People can and do cheat. A worrying number judging from the thread Lit just linked to.

I've seen a 20 stone bloke apparently run sub 40 mins for the first. 10k and then fade away to a 7 hour marathon. My guess is he waited in the crowd and paid a fast runner to give him a flying start.

Most of the course has no barriers at all.

It's very easy to cheat, as evidenced by exposed cheats past and present. Bus and tube rides have also been implicated in the cheaters tool kit.

Only 5k splits are recorded not every mile. Some runners, for whatever reason, do have omissions from the results. This isn't always due to cheating. Isn't there someone out there still running even though there's a photo of them finishing?

Potentially, he could have been a very fast 20st runner who got injured just after 10k, and walked the rest.

I think your money is probably safe, but the sun is shining and I'm in a good mood today.

What about cheating at Brighton though? Is that possible?

No. Cheating at Brighton is impossible.

lol. The funny thing is the Brighton marathon, due to the nature of the course is a cheaters paradise, constant looping back and forth, a dogs leg that then returns a few miles later to the same spot before continuing on. So easy to just pull out .... need to tie your shoelaces ... oh which side was I on again? Oh the one heading back the other way thats just cut 3 miles off my run. Yeah thats the one.

But no point complaining about it. Even the people who run the running clubs are in denial about any cheating even when their runners post a 30 minute PB that they hadnt done in any of the years they had been with the club and then mysteriously for the year afterwards, they somehow lose all their fitness and revert back to posting the times they posted before their PB. And to think we complain about Joe Public cheating when the running clubs don't do enough themselves to take the problem seriously.

Ooh, looks like the 'cheating bastards' thread has been cazzed. Can't be seen to be accusing cheats of cheating, eh what?

And Karen's Dogging Thread.... Do you think that there was a connection ?

You can cheat anywhere where runners have to perform an out and back, saw it at Manchester, people just used the toilets and then went the other way. Pointless if you're a true runner, but public marathons appeal to more than true runners
