Tim, I am doubtful that the club will become official. We formed under the 'Runners World' umbrella and self appointed ourselves as they're running club! As I understand the situation, unless they want to formalise any links with us, we will remain 'unofficial'.
Running is like anything. You can spend as much as you like on it, most of which will be on things you don't really need!
Not sure about the postman, but I dare say his eyeballs will have rolled slightly at one or two of the letters that have arrived addressed to 'The Dog Walker'!!!!
