That village is a 5 minute drive from where i live....it's from the Irish "Magh" whcih basically means standing stone.  The word Muff is the English people's way of pronouncing (butchering) the Gaelic.

They also have a petrol station there called Top....they used to give out key rings with "Top Muff" written on them LOL!  They don't do that any more!!
