must have been some major personal problems that make you want to just curl up in the snow and die.......sounds like he will get the help he needs

Poor guy... but what "personal problems" can be so great you don't realise your feet are freezing off?

When I first read it in Metro it sounded like he left for a run before the snowstorm started.  Did he just get lost or was he intending to 'do an Oates' and not return?  You'd have to be mixed up for the latter.  Such ability, destroyed.

When I read it I assumed that he almost wanted to be frozen but wasn't quite sure himself.  He was found outside a hotel.  Why didn't he go inside?

I hope the guy gets medical help for his mental state as well as his physical condition.  That's a terrible place to be.

Oh dear... poor bloke .  Hypothermia is a strange thing.  You don't know you are suffering from it (I succumbed to it during the KIMM one year.) I felt fine - brilliant in fact... I was too hot and removing clothing! It was only the attention of my team mate and a vigilant marshal at a checkpoint who, realising I was not acting rationally forced me to retire.  It only takes a couple of degrees core temperature drop to seriously harm you.  If this guy was out for only a few hours in sub-zero temperatures without the proper kit for such conditions he have been in dire straights and unable to do anything for himself.  I don't know if Kenyons would be affected quicker than for example a north european coming from such a different climate?

Rather typically my wife spotted that story a day after I had mentioned I was putting in for the Yukon ultra in 2013.

but he wasn't running at the time........the fact he is a runner has nothing really to do with the story

Sadly that doesn't seem to matter, neither dies the fact I'll be properly equipped, trained and with emergency backup at hand if needed and completely ignoring the fact I won't be trying to kill myself!
It's not a great setback it just means I'll have to do a little more convincing
