Cheers, couple of weeks might be a bit soon, not run in so long I'm virtually starting from scratch, but I'll have a look.

??? Ev’rybodies Shufflin’???
First time doing the Silkstone Shuffle. It’s a Kimberworth Club Champs race, so I figured I’d better...
Besides after my last couple of races, I figured it was time to get faster. My usual tactics tend to be:
Start of at the back
Warm up/build up pace
Finish strong
Which is fine, but I reckon it’s helped me to get slow. I’ve been playing it safe. Don’t risk setting off too fast, ensure you’ve got something left at the end.
So this time I figured: set off midfield alongside other Kimmy runners about the same ability and push.
I’d been warned, half a mile flat/slight down and then ‘the endless hill of the Silkstone Shuffle’. It kept getting mentioned, a tough uphill mile. I decided a minute before the start on a tactic. Hit the hill. Its a mile. That’s approx 8 mins to tough out.
It worked great. Glancing at the Garmin at the bottom 4:00, I was at the front of our Striders bunch. Next time I glanced at it 11:45.

I pushed on and within a minute had crested the hill. Glanced back and realised there were no yellow vests!
The rest of the race was easy compared to the hill. I kept pushing. There was a bit where I lost sight of the group infront, but no real chance of losing my way. There was plenty of tape, if you’re observant.

OK, “if you’re observant”

There’s one stile, near the finish. I got 5ft past when I heard a shout. So I lost a place, nearly 3 - along with 10 seconds. But at least I didn’t end up running into Silkstone!
I nearly got the place back in the final run round the field to the finish. Then I heard shouts, (there’s someone behind me?). Didn’t think I could, but I sped up for the last 100m. Didn’t do any good. This guy came flying past me. So I lost another place, but I pushed more than I’d have said I could.

I actually thanked him for pushing!

I’m loving it. Finally think I’ve got my ‘mojo’ back. It was well over a minute to the next Strider showing. I think I was the first out of my division in the club champs to finish, which gives me 20 points. I reckon that puts me top of the division, for now.

Bring on the next one
Anyone for Stocksbridge Chase 10k, in a couple of weeks?

Nice run Garry, the shuffle is a great race. Well organised and a nice course. Will be on holiday for Stocksbridge race.

No parkrun for me due to bus breaking down on way to sheffield.

Decided to do mile reps instead, 4 mile easy run/warm up then 3  1 mile efforts with 2 min recovery and a 2.5 mile run home to recover. Mile splits 6:36,6:31,6:24 strange spread of times. Felt like giving up on second interval but thought better of it zipped up the man suite and carried on. Last time I did this session on 8th August I did 6:56,5:56,6:57 so pleased with the improvemnet.

Popsider another good fell type race is Leg it round Lathkill 7 miles with a killer hil but no nav needed and more like a tough cross country really. (normally around remembrence Sunday so plenty of time to train for it)

Evening.

Been carrying on with my progress and its going quite well, done 3x8m runs this week which is the first in a while I have consecutively managed that mileage and the weight is going in the right direction.

Lathkill is a good run with a tough, but short finish up a grass hill. Having a thing about races, but deffo enetring the Totley series in January and will start to build up some off road running shortly. Probably a 10m lap of the Derwnet/Howden reservoirs and then possiblly a repeat of the 10m me n Riggsy did from the Fox House the other year.

Cheers will have a look at that - my foot is playing up at the moment and limiting me to 2-3 shorter runs per week but hopefully it's just the body getting used to the impact again.   Had almost forgotten the feeling of walking around like an 80 year old.

Well done PJAZ glad things are going well, the Fox House run was that the one from Foz House to redmires dam up onto stanage then back to fox house along burbage valley - nice run that was. Popsider hope the foot recovers soon.

Did 3 miles today - only had 25 miles so decided to push on a bit and see what kind of pace I could do - ended up 22.57 so ~7.40s - could probably have kept it together for another couple of miles if I had to so that gives me something to work on anyway.   Foot was sore for the first half mile and thought I was going to have to stop but kept on and it seemed to loosen up and hasn't reacted since.

Oh and if anyone short is looking for a road bike a mate of mine is selling one far too cheaply - £500 Time carbon frame with full Ultegra hardly used.

Morning.

Running going well at the moment.  My last 5 runs have all been 8m and my times have been:

1:16:29  1:16:22  1:16:43 (different run but 8m)  1:15:54 and this morning a 1:15:03

Well done me.

Fraid not was planning on doing so but then agreed to work overtime tonight.

Plan for today had been 5 eady miles (ready for parkrun on Sat) but since I am now working decided to do my long run instead so approx 15.25 in 2:05:20. Pleased with run felt good all way round and fairly consistent pace approx 42 mins for 0-5 miles and 5-10 miles then a quicker final 5 miles in 40 mins ish. Only took some water and jelly babies on at 12 miles when I got Fizz (the dog) for the last 3 and bit miles. Really enjoyed the run.

21/09/2012 at 15:52

 - good running that Riggsy.

22/09/2012 at 16:31

nice run Riggsy

swapped my bike ride for a run today went to heatherdene and ran up to fiarholmes and back nice day for it , 22.5 miles for me this week in three runs so nothing that long just trying to pick up the pace a bit . Going for a ride in the morning if the weather is not too bad or if I have not got a hang over from tonight

Nice going foofighter

A good running day today without doing any running

Clowne Half entered and new trainers ordered (current ones have over a 1000 miles in them and are falling apart plus I have worn through the tread on the left one)

30/09/2012 at 16:57

 - over a week since last post. Where is everyone - on Facebook?

96m for me this month, had hoped to get 100 in but couldn't get me sorry ass out of bed so just did 5.5m, ah well a better month overall so not too disappointed.

30/09/2012 at 19:14

HI Pjaz

just got back from Keswick so no running for me this weekend and only 6 miles last week so your 96m tops mine any day

30/09/2012 at 19:25

Yeah, bit quiet on here?
When I was last on I'd just doen the Silkstone Shuffle, followed last weekend with the Stanage Struggle.

I nearly got 3 weekends with double 'S' races, yesterday doing the Stocksbridge Chase.

So thats 3 weekends with hilly 10k races.

Wonder how it'll translate next weekend with a relatively flat 10k at Cusworth?
