I know! Why don't we arrange a big group trip to Dublin?!

Glad to hear you've reclaimed a bit of Baz time and got your commute issue sorted.

A big group trip to Dublin...

Hmmm

I toyed with doing Manchester marathon this year, then saw the entry fee and just thought I'll stick to fell racing!

Blackpool Stu? Not far and only ??28

Manchester or Sunderland are possibilities for next year. I doubt I'll make Dublin this year so might just concentrate on getting fitter ready for then.

Cheers Giro but to be honest it was just a fleeting thought, I've got enough other races on the horizon that mean I wouldn't concentrate on marathon training and would just end up disappointed with my time!

Manc mara - II keep being badgered about attempting this too. More put off by
last year's reports than the fee, which must be cheaper than going to Dublin.
28/01/2013 at 12:45

Yeah last years Manc mara did sound like a bit of a shambles ET but you've gotta hope they learnt from it!

How was everyone's weekend? Helped out at Oldham Parkrun on Sat, 6 inches of snow but no problem for the runners as that meant no ice. Then the thaw started and by the time I went out on Sat afternoon for a few miles everything had turned to slush and I couldn't get any traction even with the mudclaws on.

Snow had pretty much gone by yesterday and I got a good 3 and a quarter hours in the hills in. First long run in quite a while and it felt like it but I need to up the mileage over the next month or so.

Have a good week everyone!

Ooh! It's just like the old days! Just about to hop on to me turbo (read treadmill) then I'll read back .

I think the Manchester marathon now starts and finishes outside Old Trafford instead of two different locations as it did last year. That should help people's bags make it to the finish.

I bought my first new pair of running shoes in about two years on Saturday. Some Adizero somethings. Feel quite nice so far

McStu what races have you got coming up?

29/01/2013 at 13:57

Mozzy - are you still on the turbo or are you still reading back??

Baz - got Carnethy 5, a Scottish hill race, in a few weeks. Bit of a trek but the club always takes a group and makes it a bit of weekend away. Then I've got the "New Chew" which is a Long Score navigation event on my local turf. After that it's the Howarth Hobble which at 32miles will be my first attempt at doing anything beyond mara distance. Only got about 6weeks to train for it but aim is just to get round and want to use it as a learning experience... how to pace it, what to eat / drink etc etc. Not thought much further than that but will as usual be spending a lot of time on the hills and will try and get a few tri's in.

Did anybody do Tigger Tor this weekend??

29/01/2013 at 14:28
Yes me. With the bad weather then the rapid thaw they used the shorter 8mile bad weather course. There was a river running down the first hill off the road. It was very very windy and mix of lots sludge, water and lots of mud. Wasn't a running technique more like a running march with knees being lifter high to get thru. I managed to stand in a 3ft deep trench of water which was followed by a trunce style river(usually a stream) crossing at the bottom of higger Tor. Legs felt fine and welcomed the icy cold water but my wet left arm felt like it was going to fall off. Fecking freezing. At one point the temp dipped and my shoes developed lumps of ice in them.hardwork but it was so much fun to do.

Tim Rutter did it too and did ok I reckon.
1hr 12min for me, 1hr 9min for Tim

Good work Giro! Sounds like I would have enjoyed it!

29/01/2013 at 14:46

I was busy for Tigger Tor unfortunately. I reckon i would have done it in about 1h 15 (very big dose of ish here

Sounds like a busy calendar as usual Stu. My calendar has Sheffield half in it and not much else right now. Just feeling like I'm enjoying running again is nice enough at the moment.

Spot on Baz, if you're not enjoying it what's the point?

Is Mozzy still on the treadmill?

30/01/2013 at 19:44
Tigger tor was my first fell race 1:13 so just behind runningowl.
What a good race though great experience. Took it steady to start no option really thought water froze at 0 the streams/mud there felt like -10 at least.
Did follow a few guys from porter valley plodders, this is my local running group any one from there on here? Never joined a running group thinking about trying the pvp. Looking for a group with a mix of fell and road, one that might be able to help me towards my first full marathon. Any suggestions?
Also any suggestions for a first marathon. I will be doing Sheffield and Eyam half, and hathersage hilly so a marathon later in the year would be best.
31/01/2013 at 10:48

Ok still not read back but I'll chip in and keep up!

Running eye - I'm not a member of the PVP but I know them pretty well - I run the Smiley Paces and partners of a few of our members run with them. V friendly bunch - not overly keen on rules and constitutions - small'ish group of like minded people who enjoy the odd pint! Lots of keen fell running types, but a mixed bag catering for most abilities. Go for it! They meet at the Greystones on Wednesday evenings.

Off out on my b*** now, but I did RUN earlier - 4 x 1k reps - utterly shit, but I did do an interval session last night and I've got another sodding cold!!!

31/01/2013 at 10:50

Oh, and my training buddy is off enjoying herself skiing - I miss my little base playing/running/cycling friend .

Afternoon.

Well done everyone on doing Tigger Tor - must have been cold crossing the streams.  I had to run through where the Don had come over the 5 Weirs path recently and my feet were like ice within seconds so I dread to think how it affetcs other parts .

Lost 10lbs to Monday in 3 weeks so pleased with that - hope to get another 4lbs off this week to hit 1st in 4 weeks.  I'll be in Orlando in 8 weeks - getting excited now .

Running going OK - upped my weekly morning runs (Wed & Fri) to 8.25m this week so just need to keep my Sunday AM runs interesting (i.e. off road) and i'll be raring to go soon.

Gaz - won't be able to make the Hillsborough Parkrun this Saturday now , got kids stuff to do (i.e. taking them to their various basketball and cricket activities) on Saturday AM - hope it goes well
