Should results be limited to participants?

Until DF3 I would have said no. Now not so sure amazing how one smart arse can ruin something that is meant to be fun for a lot of people.

i thought running was meant to be fun... Now it's just a case of praying a stupid timing device I have no control over works perfectly.

Thanks for totally ruining a sport for me.

Edit: for typo.

Wow ease up there booktrunk ...... Ive been called a lot of things before but being singlehandedly responsible for ruining the sport of running.

Thats a new one.

I said ruining it for me. Can't you read?

29/04/2013 at 21:59

Well... what wasn't clear in what I typed?

29/04/2013 at 22:00

How is it ruining the sport for you?

Isnt it a bit like saying drug testing had ruined cycling?

Woah ..... someone has had a little too much coffee tonight.

Ok, lets back up here, calm down and work through this.

I have only highlighted TWO incidents which looked strange. The first involved someone who posted a PB that smashed her previous one, and she ran sectors that only the top 3 women in the race could match. Combine this with the oddity that her previous PB time on her runners site doesnt match with that of the official one in Paris, and there is enough room for doubt.

Likewise for the one tonight, we have numbers almost but not quite, second for second all the way through the race. Also EVEN if that was all explained away due to dodgy timings, it was unfortunate that the race photographer managed to get 23 shots of her husband and not a single shot of her. Not one.

So I have actually put forward multiple bits of evidence for each case. Perhaps its all just unfortunate co-incidences ..... but should we keep all knowledge of anything untoward to ourselves? If I cheated and then used that time to claim a GFA and thus take up someone elses spot or at the very least put even more pressure to lower the times because yet another person has qualified, would you be happy with that?

Some of you who profess to LOVE running sure want to keep everything that should raise an eyebrow on the down low.

Finally lets get some perspective here. We are talking about running, not about shooting puppies. Lets get a grip yeah?

Honestly you seem quite highly strung for someone old enough to know better.

No I have no control over a timing chip and if it goes wrong or not.

i have worked in IT for far to long, shit happens.

That is nothing like drug cheating!!

You are correct in that timing chips can go wrong, any technology can. But like I said in both cases, there were other factors which also pointed to a strange combination of events. In neither case have I solely relied purely on the timing chip as 'proof'.

Why should I care what someone else does, who the heck is she harming (except herself)  if something did take place in the way you claim? I mean is it going to cause WW3, no, you you are just a jumoed up bully that seem to take delight in showing off that you don't have anything better in life to do except pick on other people.

You only attack people who are not around to defend themselves which is pathetic.  Call someone a cheat to their face... Oh no... You just like snide cute little comments.

You are just pathetic.

Again fucking wrong 1 bottle of 500ml black sheep Saturday night last alcohol I had.

29/04/2013 at 22:19

I'll take your advice and not let a prick ruin running for me. I'll be sensible and ignore you.

I'm no fan of DF3 booktrunk, but to be fair, he did answer this question fully.

If someone cheats and achieves a GFA time - then they can take a place in a London marathon - thus cheating somebody else out of the chance of a lifetime.

I can confirm that Run Wales is no fan of mine.

Cheaters should be banned from all events for at least a few years, I ran the royal parks half in 09 and i was sent the wrong chip and got a bad time in the results. Even after I found The photos to prove and emailed the organiser I was told it couldnt be rectified. I hate cheaters and people who support them.

30/04/2013 at 06:09

...... could take a GFA time... Yes could where is the evidence this has happened. It's just a load of assumptions

30/04/2013 at 08:14

to answer the OP , no.
I analyse loads of results from kids athletics up to Olympics.
Manipulating of times isn't fair (if proven).
Anyone with a fair set of results wouldn't fear having their results scrutinised.

Should my local paper not print all the local 10k results this year then?
And if IT really does suck (on what seems an alarming regular basis) why do people put so much faith in electronic gadgetry?
