Whats the point in going swimming with full make up on???? What's wrong with this world?

I wouldn't be seen dead without my slap

I do go straight from work slap faced sometimes. It's the ones who turn up to run races with all the warpaint on which scares me - especially the blokes like Dave.

Why do some people feel that they can't go out without full slap?  Never seen the point of wearing much as it destroys my skin and I gave it up completely when I wasn't allowed to wear it for work

I don't like the idea of it floating in that band of water I accidently inhale sometimes

With the amount of pee in the pool a bit of mascara doesn't worry me, might come out better looking than when I went in. Apart from the old goggle eye effect of course.

Its those that wear strong perfume that I don't like.  Its horrible following them and breathing in the wake of chemicals, but they also tend to be the group of people who don't think that the rule of showering before swimming applies to them.

The funniest ones are the middle aged ladies who swim without getting their hair wet. A couple in my local pool have a chat every length and then refuel in the cafe after. They probabaly burn about 300 cals swimming and then put in 600 after.

There's quite a scary bunch in my pool if you ever go in the daytime. A friend splashed Doreen's hair as she swam past and got a proper earful.

Maybe they aren't doing it to burn calories Millsy?  Maybe they want to do a bit of socialising that is a little more active than sitting in the cafe?

I have no problem with people using the pool however they like as long as they don't get in my way or spoil things for others.

And this leads perfectly into a discussion on lane hoggers

I don't see the point in wearing make up to go running either but some women do. Waste of time and money IMO.

Yeah Millsy. Most pools have flotillas of middle aged women swimming Granny breaststroke it's just when they do it 3 of 4 abreast taking up half the width of the pool it gets annoying.

I expect there's a thread somewhere on a different site where someone is posing the question, "why do these ladies turn up like munt dogs at the pool"

24/03/2013 at 18:40

Munt dogs!  Oh that sums me up perfectly!  Love it

Whenever i've been lane swimming it's not the hoggers so much as the testosterone-driven men doing their sixty lengths at top speed who will let no one and nothing get in their way who are the most anti-social. The BIG problem is that we don't have enough pools thanks to year after year of closures. I'm sure I read somewhere that Paris has more swimming pools than the whole of England, but that could just be a made up thingy that went viral.

In my local pool the majority are really huge ladies, some of them just sit and chat in the shallow bit for half an hour and then go home. There is huge congestion in our, one for a growing town with 3000 houses coming and 25m pool, laughable. I am a doggy paddler and am very slow, have taught myself breaststroke but practicing is hard so finding a place outside a lane to practice is hard.

There are a few women wh turn up to my local parkrun with full slap on. I wouldn't mind so much but they bloody well beat me every time.

I'm understandably no expert on the subject but if Women wear make up when they are running does it just not get all sweaty and run?

Our local pool is generally used by large ladies in flowery swimming hats just swimming up and down really really slowly - they look like floral sea manities.

Still, I prefer them to the hairy torpedos. Mr Macho man bombing up and down unecessarily causing a tsunami every time they do a length so that everyone looks at them "look at me, look at me in my little Speedos!!" Gross.

Yes, it does.  Then it looks worse than no make-up would do.

I saw a woman at a race on Saturday, with the snow falling, her mascara all splodged down her cheeks.

I wear make occasionally, but for when I want to look nice, and having it all down your face doesn't look nice!

What about people who wear goggles but swim their head on top of the water?
