I don't like all the extreme consumerism and commercialisation of what is, allegedly, a religious celebration.

MrFrog and I are doing our usual volunteering thing with homeless people for the week. It started early for me on Friday when a guest I knew from previous years showed up at work (I work and volunteer for the same organisation). Not a chap I like, but he's human and was in a state. He was also really pleased to see me and smiled as I remembered him. His story is not uncommon in that though he is now classified as 'vulnerable' and has a local council who will accommodate him, his other issues prevent him from settling. He left his b&b on Thursday night to go and sleep at Heathrow. He needs serious help, not just a roof and four walls.

Last night on our first shift, we found that a friend who has volunteered with us for several years was there as a guest. Always fragile something has tipped him over the edge this year. At least with us for the week he'll be with people who really care for him and hopefully we'll be able to get something sorted out for him.

Merry Christmas.

Christmas started out as a pagan New Year festival, but was hijacked by the Christians in the Middle ages.

I guess they wanted some of the fun the Druids were having.

I'm hoping this year Christmas Cards finally die out.

Night two and it rained. I was outside. Managed to get a couple of guests to open up and talk about their situation and persuade them to start using the daytime services today.

And now to bed.

Womble, you aren't a Bah Humbug.  What you're doing will make Christmas for many of your guests and hats off to you!

Well I am sure the thousands of homeless would find that sentiment a great comfort Mr Windsor

Night three, I was running a section indoors and it didn't rain! (Outdoors, I know it doesn't normally rain indoors). It was wonderfully peaceful, I think our guests were full up with dinner and had had a good day. With various donations, we managed it so every guest received two presents

One shift left then our guests have to leave our care. We have managed so far, to get about a quarter into some sort of accommodation for when they leave and there's still today to go.
