Santababy, I just noticed that our start and target weights are pretty much the same... I wondered if you would mind if I emailed you privately....? I have a few questions since you seem to be heading in the right direction!

Actually…..unless I go public and everyone can put their pennath in....?? Sorry just thinking out loud….

She-ra’s vital statistics:

Weight: 9st 13lbs
Height: 168 cm or 5ft 7
Age 25 (in 2 weeks)

I would like to lose weight at a rate of 1lb per week. I am conscious of not cutting back on my food intake too much as I do not want to slow my metabolism and also am aware that I need to fuel my physical activity (and I love my grub)… which at the moment is variable due to shin splints and so I am doing a lot of treadmill walking. Usually, I go to running club twice per week which is one track session and one hill/interval session and a long run at the weekend…..I am building up for a half marathon in march.

I think, to maintain weight, thanks to a handy internet calculator, I need 2100kcal, does this mean I need 1600kcal per day (-500kcal (500 x 7 days = 3500 = 1lb lard)) if I were just to lose weight by dieting alone? But with physical activity I could still lose weight at 1lb week eating about 1800kcal??

Can anyone offer any advice???

I am usually a size 12 and have been threatening to get rid of a stone for about 2 years now.... so THIS IS THE YEAR!!! When you can't get yo ass in a pair of Doroethy Perkins siz 12 combats, you know it's time to take some serious action!!!

she ra, i also love my food, i dont deny myself anything, i also love my drink! i found paul mckenna cd really good, it tells you everything you know, but just makes you rethink it! sounds mad i know but its worth a try
btw, i'm only 5ft but even tho i've not lost as much weight as i wouldve liked, i've lost lots of inches which , when itcomes to clothews is more omportant, i can fit into some size10's now if thry had them i think i'd be a size 11
long runs are meant to be the best for fat burning i believe, i ran my first 1/2 mara last month and 2nd on sunday, keep adding bit more time each week to your long run and before you know it you'll be at 13 miles...

Hi Sandra,

I have taken some measurements too.... I didn't want to post them to the world, but I will remeasure in about a month. I think you have done really well! It's better to look at measurements than weight, I agree, but I don't like what the scales are telling me at the moment. I should be more like 9st 6lbs at least..

I was once a size 11- they actually make these sizes in america (miss sizes they are called I think)! but i think i'm more of a 12/13 at the moment and it's getting me down. I will continue to up the activity I just need to watch what I put in the fuel tank...the fact that I am now below the 'dreaded 10' is a real motivator.

Red wine and spiced rum are also a weakness. I have cut out all mid week drinking. I guess my problem is portion sizes. I think I need the portion police to come and arest me... failing that, wire my jaws shut!

Next few weeks will be tricky... there are a few birthdays (including mine) and anniversaries which means eating out... but I will be upping the miles for the half mara (also my first)...

not too bad, considering no exercise for over a month (apart from the last week) due to flu and then an ear infection.

Damn -I've got tha illusive one pound to loose but can't possibly shift it if I keep eating the way I am at the moment.

No change last week, which I'm surprised about as I've done no exercise and been away on 3 days 'work' (read hotel food and beer).

Hoping for better things this week as I've commenced a swimming programme; will probably put on weight then!

Didn't lose anything last week either. Had a potato/cheese episode, plus a Double Decker/crisps episode. The scales did waver between 10st6.5 & 10st7 when I weighed myself on Monday, but settled on 10st 7 - same as last week.
