All the ones at the front should be disqualified then

Well done everyone - even better race reviews this year- 99% is exceptional when there's not a lot you can do about the scenery. You just need to cultivate some palm trees or similar along the route by next December!

Thanks for everyone who organised the S10 and all the marshalls yesterday - I managed a massive PB by 6 mins and loved it. The track sessions must be paying off, if only I turned up every week.... The best bit was the benny hill music round the track

Anybody got any thoughts on how times on the Stockport 10 compare to a flat 10mile race. I'm trying to work out if I have a realistic chance of going sub 75 at 4 Villages.

The hills must add at least a minute

10/12/2012 at 10:36

I was about 50 seconds faster at Great Warford last summer than at S10 yesterday, and it is an undulating, and fairly flat course, so your theory may be right. However, while I haven't done the 4V before, my understanding is that the total vertical rise may be a little more than S10, so the rise per mile may be similar.

Please, please, please make sure you put your 'positive' feedback and rating on for the Stockport 10. There's some great feedback on there already. cheers

Sounds like a missed a rare chance to beat PPP, although perhaps not JMC.  As for sub 75...that's a long shot.  But go for it and hit the wall in the last 3 miles and wait for SARQ and I to pass you.

Great reviews, mine will be added soon.  That's a good idea from Morticia for next year!

10/12/2012 at 11:56

BHB - I would probably have to wait for about 5min!

10/12/2012 at 12:20
JMC - I have done both races for the last 3 years. Obviously these are December then Jan times;

first time;
S10 57:33 4vills 77:23
S10 59:33 4vills 77:00 (was getting over a virus for the S10)
S10 58:11 4vills 76:05

I honestly think I could have gone close to sub 75 last year, but it was v v windy.

I do think knowing the course is a bit of a help on the 4 vills.
10/12/2012 at 12:25

PPP - I'll stick just behind you then!

At least I'll have somebody to chat to whilst waiting for BHB at the finish.

10/12/2012 at 12:41

JMC - I've done both for the last 2 years:

S10 55:31  4Vill 71:49
S10 53:58  4Vill 71:37 (in gale force winds)

Mike Shaw always used to reckon your Stockport 10 pace and your 4 villages pace would be pretty much the same, ie. the hills at Stockport 10 and the extra 3.1 miles at 4 villages cancel each other out.

10/12/2012 at 14:59

With Four Villages (like S10) a lot depends on the weather.  Having said that like NI I ran faster (73.45) last year in a howling gale - which shows it is also down to who you are racing against.  I've run 4V 8 times and I think only twice sub 75.  The hills at 4V are nothing really it's just that they build up through 8-9-10 exactly at the point where you're resolve might be tested.

Wilmslow is probably a better time target race (if you can afford it!).

If anyone fancies joining us, Jonah and i are doing a headtorch run tomorrow evening on the MW. 10 miles. 5.30pm at Rose Hill.

Clairster queen of flapjacks did very well at the weekend in both running and baking (not simultaneously)    (((clairster)))

Morticia--Thanks for reminding me.

Clairster--Apologies for forgetting. Thanks for the flapjacks! They were shared around the goody bag packers.

Malcolm tells me that Wilmslow Half entries will be closing this week so (if you can afford it) get your entries in now to avoid having to beg one later.  Also ideal Xmas present for your other half.

Thanks for the prompt RB.  I wasn't going to do Wilmslow and instead find a more low key race to do, but old habits die hard.

RB, is there an entry list?

11/12/2012 at 13:23

ES - many thanks for sorting out the results and Power of Ten.

Do you think its my underwired push up bra that stops the chip working? Or my pace maker?

11/12/2012 at 13:26

PPP - have you entered any of the XCs yet? Or Wilmslow?

Clairster - thanks for the flapjack. It was delicious once it had thawed out after spending the night in GBM's car in sub-zero temperatures!
