Jonah - now that I am just about over my plantar fasciitis, I hurt my piriformus/top of ham on a hilly long run 10 days ago. And it didn't help that I tried to run, not very well, most days last week. I am resting for 7-10 days and when it has been sorted, I'll join up with you on Thursdays.

Something wrong here...J8 is doing 6*800s and training for a marathon.  I am doing 10 mile tempo runs and traning for 5ks and 10ks.

BHB- It's the next stage of my training schedule, adding faster( or slower in my case) sessions building up to the marathon

TB- Around 3mins per 800.

Tempo run for me tomorrow and I'm running a marathon. Looks like I've got my training bob on!

Please can someone who lives in the sticks (M6, TST etc) give a snow report. Is there enough for sledging?

BHB- you're training too slow, by doing longer runs, you should be doing something like 16x400m and 8x800m, for 5K and 3x2000m and 2x3000m for 10K

You are probably right TB.  I think I'll start track sessions next week.  Did a parkrun last week and will probably start doing one a month or so.

BHB-6 weeks at the track (quality sessions) and you should get the odd PB

TB, I can't imagine that I will get any PBs now.  The only one that I think I could get is marathon as I have only run two, but I am not motivated to run another.  10k will be very difficult and 5k almost impossible.

It's possible to knock a few seconds of your 5K PB, just by specific training i.e run speed sessions twice a week, say Monday/Thursday and every fourth week or so, go for a fast park run-not every week because you'll be disappointed. Also, do you do any strength training with weights? fit a couple of sessions in a week and you'll notice the difference. Also, after every longish run, say minimum of 5 miles, you should be doing 10x100m sprints (20m slower, 60m fast, 20m slower) to finish off with. All of this still helps to getting a good half-full marathon time.
