Evening all,

Hard to name definitive sad songs or films because of their subjective nature, but the following are good for copious weeping:

Songs (plural): Kindertotenlieder by Gustav Mahler

Film: just about anything by Ingmar Bergman - how about 'Cries and Whispers'?

Saddest film: City of Angels, but it's sort of joyous at the same time.

Saddest music:Sound track to the above, Concierto d'Aranjuez (2nd movement), "All by Myself", Eric Carmen.

Favourite Film: The Company of Wolves

Favourite music: So many!

Barkles - that's the one! I can never sing along to it without crumpling into a teary heap. My kids I am sure think I have lost the plot.

I used to think that Puppy Love by Donny Osmond was the saddest song around. Aged about 12, I would sit on my bed, gazing up at my Donny poster with him wearing his purple cord hat (hmmmm nice) and tears rolling down my face. I am sure he wrote it just for me....

saddest music - that bit out of Handels messiah - "he was despised and rejected" has me bawling like a baby - I save it for when I'm feeling really sorry for myself.

For some reason Torch song Trilogy, though desperatley funny had me leaving the cinema with a coat over my head having sobbed for 2 hours.
Also can anyone remember that film with Peter sellars in it where he was a gardener and his boss died etc etc the whole film broke my heart.

Sad? Yes, very. Particularly when I realised that he wasn't just singing for me but apparently for my friend Rachel too....

In fact, I was so upset that I gave him up for David Essex. I've never quite forgiven him.

But what's worse is that Mr P (unknown to me at the time obviously as I would never have married him had I known him and his musical tastes) liked Marie Osmond singing Paper Roses. He assures me he has grown out of that now...
