Functional not Art

Towels are a functional piece of home ware they are not meant to be fancy. If they have more than 2 colours they are rugs pretending to be towels. Beach towels that have fancy pictures of cars, women or Disney characters are just rugs that some dodgey European bloke couldn't sell and decided to market them as towels to pasty Brit's on holiday for twice the price !

Towels need 6 months to establish themselves as functional there needs to be roughness to them to make them effective Towels are not meant to be fluffy, soft or any other adjective that demeans them!

Towels are best left to air dry this includes hanging on doors, wardrobes or high vantage point. On occasion they can be left for a number of days in a sports bag and any accompanying aroma comes not from the towel but from the accompaying sports kit which is also drying in the bag.

Towels are not meant to smell of lavander, fruits of the forest or lime chill peaches !!

Towels need to be treated roughly to get the best from them.  They aren't arty meant to look nice or match any decor

I can't bear towels with a silky finish, it never feels like you are dry. If you buy Egyptian cotton they become functional immediately.  Costs a little more but they last for zillions of years.

My towel has a dog on it.

Forgot to add  Micro Towels  completely pointless   twice the price half the size and leave you wet

The dog has gone outside. I can use my towel again now.

I have micro towels, they work well for me. Same principal - don't use detergent or conditioner when washing, air dry. Find them very useful as you can fit them in a tiny space, also they dry me perfectly. No issues with micro towels. Also, not twice the price of ordinary towels, same price as any other towel, just good if you commute by bike and can't carry big bulky towels.

I use microfibre towel for travelling - dries quick & packs down small.

Towels are best if they're scratchy.. more absorbent. Never use fabric conditioner on them.

I buy black towels as they can be downgraded at the end of their life to dog towels and not show muck.

Towels are also best is used several times between washing.  They get softer while not losing their absorbancy if you use them a few times.

I know people who wash their swimming towels after every swim because they don't like the chlorine smell.  Well, thats just silly.  Don't visit a pool if you don''t like chlorine!

Caz, I agree, I much prefer open water swimming, right up to the point when hypothermia strikes. From about now until May I'll be at the pool. Grumpy face.

I like a nice fluffy, warm, absorbent towel. Unembroidered. Big. Washed at least twice, but not 5 years old. There is a trend in certain foreign hotels to create towel sculptures. The kids love it to such an extent that they now expect it. Yeah yeah yeah, can I have a bath please? I know I'll be destroying the elephant/swan/angel/fish/abstract thing.

Tosh to the first post, I disagree with most of the opinions. Conditioned soft towels are far better than cardboard.

Blisters, get in the sea.  September has the warmest sea temperatures of the year. You can hold off getting in the pool for another month or two.

I'm really not looking forward to pool swimming again.  However, I am looking forward to a lovely warm towel after my shower soon.  Just waiting for the water to heat up as I forgot to turn it on before I went out training
