Understandable, just cos I find it irritating will not stop me using the site - I just wish some other "members" were going to the events that I have listed ... oh well !!

I'll try your tip of minimising the windows - that should help !

Thanks again ... and keep up the good work !

SB, just to let you know that I am running Windows 2000 and don't have a problem, so the difficulty way lie elsewhere in Tim's setup.

Well I just tried again - not sure what problem is. All menus appear, but all give the error message, except for the Forum which works. Went to Netscape and something worked. Our univ. is a nightmare for this sort of things with firewalls and the like - possibly they are doing something funny??
If no-one has any ideas I'll try and get someone here to investigate.
Bizarre.

Aha!!! Some playing about from me reveals my short cut was:

http://user.domaindlx.com/rwfrc/menu.html

(what is this, how did it happen?)

rather than

http://user.domaindlx.com/rwfrc/index.html

and the latter works.

Sorry if I have wasted time - not sure how this occuured.

Could well be firewalls, because the first thing the site does is tries to work out what browser you are using, as this affects the menu bar fill that is loaded.

SB, I understand the need for the pop-ups, as nothing's really free anymore, but can I stop it resetting my IE home page to 'findthewebsiteyouneed' or something similar. Very annoying, and could be a real embarassment for those members who surf at work (most of you, judging by the 'real jobs' thread).

I also ended up with some suspicious looking cookies on my machine after accessing the site last week, fortunately I found and deleted them before the thought police at work did, but it might be worth other members checking their cookies folders for what's in there.....

The only cookies that the URWFRC site puts into you "Cookie Jar" is your user ID and some security stuff. When you close the browser window you logged on with those cookies are distroyed.

The changing of your IE home page, I have not come across. But as ever I keep a track of bugs that are reported and fix them as quickly as I can.

Just been on again, it's still changing my home page. I don't think it's the URWFRC 'window' that does it, I think it's linked to one of the pop-ups that comes up when you access the site, so it may be beyond your control.

Also a question that may be a bit stupid, but I'm not really a techie - when I look at the profiles or events, I end up with two really narrow areas across the bottom of the screen with scroll bars at the side - I can't seem to expand these vertically, and it's a bit like trying to read through a letterbox. Can I do something to make these areas bigger?

Sorry to keep asking questions, I'm sure you've got more than enough to do, but I'll buy you a pint next year when I've persuaded Mrs Slowboy that Lausanne would be a great idea for a weekend break in the Autumn.....

I also tried to access the site last night, the page came up O.K. but none of the menu items worked. It also reset my homepage to 'find the website you need'.
Using IE5 and Win98.
'Proper' hosting is not expensive - 30 or 40 quid will get quite a good package. If you want to go down that path them I'm sure 30 or 40 people will send you a quid apiece to cover it. If SB gives me an address I will happily send a him a fiver to get it going.

Robo we have had this debate often. It is not the initial cost, it is the continued outlay.
