What's the average IQ of people in prison, do you think?

On average 100, the same average as the ones outside.

Apparently 25% have an IQ of less than 80. Average is 100.

I must know a lot of bright people....

Well mine was high enough to put me into MENSA.

But I still drove to the wrong roundabout today to go to Sainsburys and then almost stole a box of Weetabix mini crunch because I'd not put it on the conveyor belt so it mustn't take into account scatty cows!

The IQ distribution may be very similar to the outside population, but I bet the level of education is significantly lower. 

I'm not convinced that whether or not you can instantly see the answer to a puzzle is a good measure of intelligence?

You asked how smart the people IN prison are. If they are in prison, then they obviously aren't the ones who are clever enough not to get caught.

"23% of young offenders have learning difficulties
(IQs of below 70) and a further 36% have
borderline learning difficulties (IQ 70-80)."

"48% of all prisoners are at, or below, the level
expected of an 11 year old in reading, 65% in
numeracy and 82% in writing.86 47% of prisoners
say they have no qualifications."

Well i sometimes wonder if those of us going to work are the ones with the low IQ.There's a young lady known here locally with a talent for shopping shall we say,who I'm told on a good day can earn £500.Once every 3 or so months she'll get her collar felt,go to court six months later and ask for x amount of similar offences to be taken into consideration and get 2-4 months in jail.

The moral of the story is that crime can definatly pay so long as your not botherd about a bit of time at HM pleasure.Now does this behaviour amount to lower or higher IQ or does Intellengence or IQ just become irrelevant,they've worked out that its easier going to jail for a couple of months a year  than spending all year going to work.
