Its in the film 'Pulp Fiction' as Captain Koons is relating being held captive by those of an 'eastern' appearance.

 Christopher Walkden ""

"This watch was on your daddy’s wrist when he was shot down over Hanoi. He was captured, put in a Vietnamese prison camp. He knew if the gooks ever saw the watch it’d be confiscated, taken away. The way your dad looked at it, that watch was your birthright. He’d be damned if any slopes were gonna put their greasy yellow hands on his boy’s birthright. So he hid it in the one place he knew he could hide something. His ass. Five long years, he wore this watch up his ass. Then he died of dysentery, he gave me the watch. I hid this uncomfortable hunk of metal up my ass two years. Then, after seven years, I was sent home to my family. And now, little man, I give the watch to you."

Maybe they thought 3rd time lucky? As in, he would not possibly abscond a third time

Maybe next time he promises not to be a very naughty boy they should make sure he does not have his fingers crossed behind his back?

Someone suspected of sexual assault should be investigated whether they are "small fry or not" and whether there are dozens of allegations or just one.

16/05/2014 at 11:42

Well whatever the rights and wrongs of the investigative process (or lack of) back then, the decision to prosecute now rests with the CPS so it's not entirely the responsibility of the police.

Blimey, surprised Nick hasn't got in on the prisoner absconding on day release yet!

Seriously though, he's absconded twice before, wtf is he doing on day release? I'm not sure who decides these things, but surely basic common sense should tell you that he was a flight risk?

I think that giving up on trial by fire/water was a bad idea

Or, chop his legs off and if he still runs away then he must be in league with the devil = burn him

19/05/2014 at 09:46

Leg irons or chains  You evil evil ba***rd that is just sick.... you should be ashamed of yourself.... this is the 21st century

Carbon fibre or titanium chains (paid for by the prisoner) are more appropriate...

If the chains are damaged in any way, even slightly; trial by fire/water....

Then there is the iron mask... or carbon fibre mask, to make it humane of course.

High risk prisoners in the US have to hobble about with ankles and wrists chained when they're being moved don't they?

So it isn't unrealistic, but you might argue that what they need is better supervision rather than manacles and fetters just in case in case the warders aren't paying attention.

19/05/2014 at 10:18

In my experience it is not about supervision, more to do with consequences.

They are threatened with consequences but then let off because it is their first 'offence'. The prisoners talk to each other (believe it or not) and know how far they can bend the rules.

OK there should be leeway in exceptional circumstances but when prisoners are absconding again and again it makes the prison system appear soft.

They were wrong but I don't think they think they were, I think they have just bowed to public (and ministerial) pressure.

As you say, possibly too late now though, sadly. But they're experienced sailors  so let's hope not.

Harold Shipman killed himself so that his wife could have his pension. Saved the taxpayer a fortune. Apparently the over 80's cost the NHS 60% of its budget, the SOB was just helping the national debt. Should have got a posthumous knighthood. The cunt.

This post Saville clean up business. Harris, Hall, etc. Do you think that the attributes that got them well known and famous were the same that led them to be the rapacious 'body grabbers' they are now being held to account for?

I mean. I wasn't given the access or opportunity to nail people sexually in my line of business as an engineer (though discovering an 80 year old women's porn stash was a bit off putting) but I wouldn't have 'gone for it' anyway.

So is it their environment (opportunity) or it is it just their personality (or lack of?)

Rolf Harris eh? who'd a thought it

He should have been more responsible with his didgeridoo.

I don't know about the others Ric but I do get the impression that virtually everything Jimmy Savile did was done to further his career as a sexual predator,

I'll remember this program (Nationwide I think) featuring Savile doing a 'running' fundraising stunt. He had with him as support, a number of guys who clearly thought him the dogs bollocks.

Who were these people? I suspect they knew all about Savile's real agenda.

Note: No women appeared to be involved in any of their doings. Suspicious.

People as prolific as him don't tend to operate alone - they were probably paedophile mates of his. I bet that fucker had 'contacts' all over the place.

Some think so, some not. It's a balancing act between the needs of the kids, the teachers, the parents, the local education authority and the government. I imagine it can be hard to get right and could well be open to abuse - so maybe better safe than sorry in this case.

you cant preach 'big society' and then complain when like minded people likving near each other 'get involved' and crystalise their views in their local school. Not unless you are willing to follow up and put controls on exactly what they can do there.
