oh my todays was a toughy at Rutland - how did you get on speedski queen and any others who ran?? came in at 4hr 27m which i will take happily - not the quickest but not the slowest of the year - what can i say apart from rain, rain and more rain and great big puddles. Thankfully 2 weeks till the next one!
Hi Sue O - sounds like you were running pretty strong at Rutland. Sooooo did not enjoy that weather - by 15 miles in had lost all feeling in my hands and feet though slight bonus in that didn't feel the blister the size of a dinner plate forming on my right foot during the run . was so cold by the time i finished that my OH couldn't hear the radio on the way home as my teeth were chattering so loud!!!! ran my 3rd slowest time ever of 4:18:10 but at least can look forward to a warmer one for december (at least, am hoping Lisbon will be warmer). am thinking i don't envy the ones running portsmouth (though meeting up for a celebratory sherbert or two would have been nice).......
Rutland was Rottenland. 3rd marathon this year that it's rained the whole race and was my 3rd marathon in 3 weeks - and I have had enough! .
Top it off my iphone which I was carrying died and is out of warranty, my garmin watch was playing up from mile 16 to 24, so I cannot look at the elevation gain and review how many calories I've burnt to cheer myself up. I don't have a time but I assume its 5h27 approx. It's my 13th marathon of the year -unlucky4ME. I was so cold gloves and all my clothes were soaking wet, was so cold my muscles felt they were seizing up and I feel traumatized. All year I've had people telling me I must be mad and today I agree with them.
Marshals and cadet were great, so was the hospitality of the italian restaurant at the finish.
SueO - remember Steyning, it's not as bad as Steyning , but it brought back all thoses memories, so I suffered the cumulative effect.
It was great having last night supper and post meal with EKGO.
I'm sure tomorrow, I will look favourably on the race. Since I didn't run that fast , I will definately be in the gym tomorrow, unless I'm shopping for an new iphone. Wednesday I'll be off Thailand (no marathons yepee!) so I can lick my wounds while relaxing in sunshine.
Please please please don't rain in Portsmouth Dec 23.
Traumatised! I have to admit you were funny at the end, and that nice Waiter even offered you his shower to warm up. I haven't stopped eating, when I left the race after a decent Pizza, I stopped on the way home for a break and a sandwich and had another full meal when I got home. Appropriately titled Rutland WATER
Tough one this weekend then! I wimped out of my long run on Sunday as it was rainy, well done to all of you. I have the Enigma 40 mile on Saturday, and Portsmouth in December, it would be nice to find another one to squeeze in too......
Hey speedskiqueen, you are right not as bad as steyning but think i am also traumatised by yesterday!!! lets hope A20 path n downs gives me my mojo back!
Have to say; I hate Rutland.
Bloody awful conditions and seemingly poor organisation.
Well done everyone who finished it.
Not the best organisation but a good challenge, I'm looking at possibly Portsmouth (but very close to Xmas to be away) and Liverbird on new years Eve, to get my 12 in for the year. So if there are any more on offer - help!
Well I'm guessing 12 in 12 is almost done for most people, so what next? 13 in 13 seems too straightforward, any thoughts?
I sneaked in no 13, the Enigma 40 miler on Saturday, next year's challenge is a 45 miler in Jan, then an Ironman in October.
To keep the legs ticking over before next month's finale in Portsmouth - I've entered this rather interesting race:http://www.runningwithdavid.com/sections/events/run_derbys/12.12at12.12on12.12.12.php12.12km at 12:12pm on 12/12/12With all those 12s in the race title - it was an obvious choice to include as part of my 12in12in12 challenge! Ok, so there is a marathon taking place on the same day (over MK way), but I decided that 12 was quite enough for me, and Portsmouth will be extra special as my last one. I didn't feel the need to squeeze in an extra one to finish on 13, so this 12.12kmn race is the perfect alternative. If anyone is interested in running it - let me know. There is no medal (all proceeds are going to charity), so I'm going to sort out medals for a few of us taking part! We'll just have to have our own medal-giving-ceremony afterwards
sounds like fun Ulen - would love to be there but won't be back from Portugal in time
Anyone? I'm going to order medals this weekend for the 12.12 12:12 12/12/12
I'm out Ulen.Current have mild Bronchitis (probably from Rutland ), so no running at the moment.
