I have noticed that on this website it says 11:10 start time but on the fylde coast website it states 10am, anyone know the correct start time.

Pretty sure that it was at 10am last year.

I`ve done it both years and reckon I might target it again. PBed both times so hope to get a quick one!

Hello,

Am looking to do a 1/2 over the winter time and am coming from the NE. What is the organisation like for this race and what is it like?

Thanks.

Hi Runningbagel

I have done this both years and I would say it is a well run local race.

The first year it was postponed due to bad weather. I missed the notices that it was off and drove down, and I can confirm that in no way was the course runnable. I only live 10 miles away so no great shakes and headed off to run down a trail on the River Ribble.

Last year the conditions were perfect and the course is as flat as anything in the north west. The only time you are not on the flat is running over the motorway bridges, which you do a few times. I would say that if you haven't eaten too much turkey and drunk too much whisky it is a PB course. If you have over done it over Xmas and New Year then it is a good one to plod round and get back into things (that is what I did).

They have sports massage at the start and end of the race, think I just donated a few quid for that.

They also give you a chocolate bar at the end and there is a pretty decent bacon butty van on the A6 for after the race.

We are blessed with lots of good half marathons in the north west (this one, Lancaster and Morecambe and a few on the Fylde coast) so personally I wouldn't look to travel more than 30 miles for a half and wouldn't consider this race so great that I would give all day up for it, but I will definitely be looking to do it again this winter.

Good luck if you do it.

RB - Yeah, I`d pretty much concur with what MP wrote. It is a good race if you want a time; flat, decent quality field and enough runners to have competition but to not be overcrowded.

Just entered. `Nearly full` apparently. Long runs going ok at the mo so hoping for a decent time again!

I'm trying to decide if I will have recovered from New Year's eve to be able to do this race.

This year the race was posted as being FULL, so I didn't turn up on the day. Only to find out from a friend you could pay on the day. Will the same apply for next years race ?

If you ask, there may be one or two late returns of numbers. The proviso for eod is you won`t get a medal, probably! Always worth asking imo.

I think the answer to my question is `no` but , are there any kids playgrounds nearby?
03/12/2011 at 15:33

You have a playground at the saddle pub 1and a half miles south of catforth and the same northwest of catforth in inskip near the derby arms pub which is on school lane they could see you run past the derby arms go for a play for an hour and then make it back to catforth to see you come in hope that helps a bit of local knowledge cheers Alan T.

Alan - that is really helpful! I looked up Derby Arms and didn`t realise that it was on route! Reckon it`ll be `available` at that time of day? (I did think I recognised the pub and obviously it was from plodding past it in early Jan for the past coupla years!). Ta!

Anyone know if there are storage facilities, as I will have to come on the train from Liverpool!
06/12/2011 at 20:51

I don`t recall any. It`s based in a village hall but I do remember race officials offering to store bags if needed.

500 limit this year so not sure I`ll be top 100 again!

Why such a negative thought Egyptian you should be confident and aim high as positive thinking can count for a couple of secons a mile and you never know who will turn up to run the race

Cheers. Long runs going ok at the mo and did some harsh speedwork at Don Valley last night so I`m getting there.
