Hi Runningbagel
I have done this both years and I would say it is a well run local race.
The first year it was postponed due to bad weather. I missed the notices that it was off and drove down, and I can confirm that in no way was the course runnable. I only live 10 miles away so no great shakes and headed off to run down a trail on the River Ribble.
Last year the conditions were perfect and the course is as flat as anything in the north west. The only time you are not on the flat is running over the motorway bridges, which you do a few times. I would say that if you haven't eaten too much turkey and drunk too much whisky it is a PB course. If you have over done it over Xmas and New Year then it is a good one to plod round and get back into things (that is what I did).
They have sports massage at the start and end of the race, think I just donated a few quid for that.
They also give you a chocolate bar at the end and there is a pretty decent bacon butty van on the A6 for after the race.
We are blessed with lots of good half marathons in the north west (this one, Lancaster and Morecambe and a few on the Fylde coast) so personally I wouldn't look to travel more than 30 miles for a half and wouldn't consider this race so great that I would give all day up for it, but I will definitely be looking to do it again this winter.
Good luck if you do it.
