LS21- I did it for the 1st last year and we are doing it again this year, in a team of 5. Obviously your team was faster than ours as we only got 5 laps done each!
Haha! I just picked 4 fast mates!! Don't ever do it as a pair - I did 15 (yes, FIFTEEN) laps in 2010 - 150k! I was actually supposed to be running Abingdon that year but sold my place cos I was injured! No surprise there then....
Be interesting to see what the course is like this year actually - in 2010 and 2011 it was identical. Last year 80% or so of it was the same, but a few sections were different - because the bottom field wasn't really usable due to it being too wet. Not sure if you remember coming out of that last wood section (circa 7.5k) and then running along the ridge, before turning right, dropping down a hill and then along a long off-camber section towards the campsite? Well normally you turned left half way along that off-camber and then looped around that bottom field. That's the field they coulnd't use, so part of the course had to be changed to make the loop back up to 10k. I actually thought the loop was harder last year (there were a few more climbs in the new bits) so be interesting to see which loop they use.
Anyway, I managed my 17 this morning but it was bloomin' hard work! I was fine for about 10 miles, struggled for the next 3 and the final 4 were a death march! Still, it's done now and sill 17 weeks to go!
I found getting up and running every 4 hours in the middle of the night hard enough, so I'd never consider doing it as a pair (or solo ). Hopefully the rain will keep off- any ironing out of the hills will be most welcome, especially towards the end of the 24hrs.
Well done on the 17 miles- its very blustery here today. I'm just doing 10miles today - but then i don't have a marathon this autumn! Just a lot of envelopes to fill and send out to y'all. Although I must remember that the GFA entries for London open tomorrow...
16 mile done today, 55 miles in total, so far no problems, long way to go though
Looks like I am going to be out of this one Season write off for me I'm just waiting to hear from someone if they want my place, if not then I will put it up for sale on here.
What a rubbish year. Hopefully things will improve next year.
Sorry to hear that.
I am keen to buy a place Pip. Please let me know if it is free.
Sorry to hear that too Pip But if it's any consolation I missed Abingdon in 2010 due to injury. Once back I re-built slowly and the rest seemed to help in the long run. I went on to run a PB at VLM 2011, so try and see the positives if you can (easier said than done I know...)
Good work from Nonstick
Similar story here TBH. Another good week and my fitness is coming back a bit now. I just need to be careful re a bit of an achilles niggle, but hopefully I can keep on top of it.
Looking forward to Abingdon in October as it will be my first marathon. Done quite a few half marathons but now ready to take on the big one.
Training starts today....16 weeks to go!! Good luck everyone.
Pip- if you can't find anyone, I have 80 runners on the official waiting list who are gagging for a number....
42 miles last week - had the luxury of a rest day yesterday but back to the grindstone today!
PipG, I'm not sure about circumventing the official list, but I'd like to enter Abingdon.
Old ShadowFix, how do I get myself put on the official list?
I started to get a bit demoralised last week, after 2 recent races which were no better than last year, despite a lot more training this time. I started questioning what I am doing, especially without a number for Abingdon.
However after an PM I think I'm in (thanks Pip ). Just waiting for email confirmation from Abingdon. Not only that but on the back of this motivation boost I knocked 9 sec off my 10k pb on Friday. Happy days.
Nice one Keir, good work.
See you at the start line on 20th October (hopefully!)
Keir- Pip and I have just made you very happy I think!
You have indeed!
27.8m in the heat today to round off a record 88m week. Might have a rest day tomorrow.
New Forest 10 yesterday to test the pace, nice top 10 finish at 6.23m/m avg. Veeeery Warm.
I was entered for Chester but now cannot run that day ... I've officially passed my number on to someone else and I am now looking for an Abo number (there's always Leicester on 13th but Abo would work much better for me.
First twenty this Sunday, that means one thing and one thing alone. It's time to get back on the hamster wheel. How is everybody going? After a rubbish build for London due to calf injuries I have had a decent six or seven weeks after some strengthening and balance exercises. Ready for some hard work now just hope I have no issues this time around.
I have been maintaining a pretty regular 15-16 mile long run - not greatly looking forward to upping it. Once I get the first one or two out the way should feel much better.
Good luck in this heat Martin, think I might give it a bit longer before I attempt it.
