16th March 2014: New Date
good idea flatboy!
leisurely 8miles this morning. meet a clubmate whos training for an ironman and ran a bit with her, heard about the event! made marathon running look sane!!
a couple of easy trots left for me and a gentle massage on tuesday.
Lovely last double digit run yesterday morning, 11M all done at MP which felt nice and comfortable throughout. 5M done this afternoon in 20c and gorgeous weather so a little bit of acclimatising! Three 4 milers and it's race day. Feeling really good, lets do this!
I can't help you with your training schedule Wenty - you're in a different league to me!
Surrey Half for me this morning, pretty pleased to get round in 1:32:07. I was tracking the 1:30 pacer for the first few miles but kept telling myself this wasn't the run to go 100% all out in so let them go on without me. I'll try to go sub 1:30 in a period free from marathons! It was good to do the run in the heat though, could be pretty similar next weekend.
I'm probably with Monk now, two or three gentle 4/5 milers this week before flying out Friday.

and you were not even trying.
Oh - I wish that was the case!... I was trying, I just eased off a bit. I cycled to / from the event and probably ran it at 85%. I'm pretty sure I could have gone sub 1:30 if I'd wanted but not much more. 6 minutes is a pretty big difference in a half!
I think (and its still a work in progress!) I'm going to set out with the aim of a 3:20, anything better then great, if I fall back then as long as I'm sub 3:30 (number 1 aim) I'll be happy.
I'll then need to figure what to aim for in London - possibly Barca time - 5 mins?!
...and what I'm going to do about Brighton - are you running (jogging?) that or have you given up on that one now?
10 miles done today - and a few extra doing a photo shoot for a new race we are putting together in Sheffield.... few niggles aches and pains - so lots of stretching ice and good nutrition over the next couple of days....
Got flippin sun burn today ... its March the 9th!
Ten miler from me yesterday in really pleasant sunshine - what a change to go out not dressed like Captain Scott.
Thanks for the comments regarding my half in Reading guys.
I cant help you Wenty, you are a much better runner than me. You have to go with your gut instinct but I wouldnt think you would be compromising London by having an easy midweek at this stage.
Phil - I am aiming for as close to 3hrs as i can at London but barcelona I am only aiming for 3:20 ish and anything sub 3:30 will be fine by me. Is London your A race?
I dont think i will be running Brighton this year.
Woke up this morning with a pain in the Glutes, so will take this week easy. As Roger said I dont think an easy midweek at this stage will do any harm.
Remember this is supposed to be enjoyable .... just go out and run and don't worry about whether you hit your targets too much .... if the hard work is put in and the conditions and feeling is right on the day then that will come too as a nice bonus....(trying to be philosophical about the sub 3 attempt!)
Enjoyable - Its a marathon !!! not supposed to enjoy them. Its all about the pain, the self flagulation. Enjoyment is sitting watching the marathon drinking bear and eating Tapas
Wenty if I was you and I found out to my expense in jan try and split any sessions up with at least an easy day in between. A long run of fast 21 followed by hills the next day you won't be recovered properly. It's something I've made sure of since my calf popped earlier on in this prep. I'll be running up to Friday (a session) resting Saturday and simply treating barca like a training run so there's no real need to rest for the four days up. Also if your running at 20 minutes slower than your race pace it should be nice and comfortable anyway. Well done on the 21 btw I completely ruined my own 21 by staying in the pub all day Saturday after a good session on the friday too. oops. A few after barca and I'm back on the wagon for sure I can't handle the booze anymore!!
Thats such a british attitude Wenty ...Enjoyment = stuffing your face on the sofa..... no its not.... its getting out there and doing it! ....then having the Beer and Tapas! ... The Beer tastes so much better, and the Tapas so much tastier!
Only joking Banksy - Im a bit odd as i dont actually enjoy running. But then I'm not that keen on Tapas either.
Martin, did the 21miles on sat then hills on sun as i have a new job and cant really run during the week at present. Quite a sharpe pain in the butt today, hopefully its nothing serious
You'll have to do shuttle runs around the office Wenty
beautiful morning here. did 4 x 400m with warm up and cool down. nice session. one more trot tomorrow morning and a sports massage this evening.
