great that the race is been held again in 2009 I think it will be a great race as it will be 3 years since I did the full one and I am so glad to been trying to run the whole way again   hopefully it will be better weather then 2008

the course the little loop has been taken out so it starts at the hilton just goes all the way past the pleasure beach to squires gate back to bispham then round again for us full runners

I've just entered, who needs London when you can have Blackpool! It's also nearer. Should be a good event.

Can anyone say how much water you get at the 3 mile cup stops? It says cups of water, do they give a decent amount as I sweat a lot?

well it will probably be raining Blackpool in April so i suppose once you've drank the water out the cup, you could run another mile with the cup catching th rain, and there you go another drink

for runners new to this event  you will get numbers details etc 2 weeks before race day

Jay snizzel

it rained this year but I did the half   I have 3 mararthons under my belt at blackpool  2004/5/6

there will be water if I can remember just past the pleasure beach  then the start of the lower walk  then bispham turn round  then 1 mile or so before the hilton  they will have other drinks aswell   as well as the good jelly babys

Richard you will get a full cup of water

I would never do London to many in it  Blackpool is the best   and for anyone wanting to run mararthon later on in the year  Ron and lewis are doing a full one at fleetwood  in sept or oct 09  good thing there is it will start at the lesuire centre

Looking forward to running this, it'll be my first marathon since Nottingham last year so hoping for a better time.

Does the Great NW Half Marathon follow a similar route as I'm down to run that as well

I've just signed up for my first attempt at the marathon distance after failing in the ballot for FLM 2009. I started running in 2007 when I was travelling and completed half marathons in Hong Kong and Sydney then after various 10k races around Manchester this year I got my half best down to 1:26 at the Great North Run.

I'm hoping to achieve the 'good for age' standard for London in 2010 and read that Blackpool was a fast race, what do you think my chances are for under 3 hours on that course?

Interested to know about the course for the Great NW Half as well.

The great NW half  is 2 laps fron the hilton to the north peir up to bispham and back again

Mahonjai

you would have to be fast to get 3 hours in the full  as it is tough and you have to face the lower walk twice  which hurts on the feet second time  I will be doing the full 4th time in 2009

I've heard there were RW pacers in the Great NW Half last year, do they have them at the Marathon as well?
24/10/2008 at 12:16

This is my first attempt at a marathon, I too had signed up for the FLM09 but got rejected and straight away signed up for the Blackpool Marathon 09, just completed my first 10k i few weeks ago.

Cant wait.

I'm also doing this one , barring injury , with the aim of a GFA time to get me in for London 2010.

Did the GNW Half this year and really enjoyed it.

you'll not regret your decision Jay, it's a great race, very well organised and the course is mostly flat and there is not too many other runners to get in your way.

Mahonjai, there were no pacers at the marathon last year and I don't think there have been for at least the previous two years

hehe people are asking me to stop and get some bars of rock along the way

I'm doing this, but planning to do it as a training run.  My sister lives in St Annes and will then be either very heavily pregnant or a proud mum, and I'm due to do a 22 miler in training for FLM.  On the basis I'll probably be over there because my mum will be over from Spain to see the new arrival, so if I run that weekend I'd probably end up running along at least part of the course I decided I may as well enter but take it easy and walk the last bit if necessary.

Durham Dawlder

though you had given up on these debates  but nice to see you back on hopefully this thread will talk about the good things of the race  and one is I am doing Holmfirth 15 mile on sunday and aiming for a 1h40 finish  it will be tough as it is 2 laps and not flat

24/10/2008 at 18:27

Am also doing Holmfirth this Sunday , for the first time.Partly dreading it but will be happy with sub 1.40.

I think I was just behind you Michael at Fleetwood HM.I did 1.27 but died in the last 4 miles !

24/10/2008 at 18:42

mark

Holmfirth is a tough course but if you pace it right you should do it   there is a steep bit  so take it easy on this  I am runner 1 in this race

yes I did 1h27 at fleetwood   you might have seen me speaking to ron   not keen on the lesuire centre changing rooms

there will be a mararthon at Fleetwood in 2009

At least you guys can rest easy in the knowledge that the 2009 course will be accurate. The organiser won't want a repeat of the short course fiasco of 2008.
