Well I start my 16 week schedule on Monday. I have a good base level of fitness from Paris and my most recent half marathon.

All I will be concerned about at the end is re-hydration. i.e where is the nearest pub for a pintof guiness.

After Paris I went to the nearest irish bar and knocked a pint of water and 3 pints of guiness.

You're tougher than me James, don't think I could stomach a pint straight after. Although I will demolish a malteesers milkshake!

There are lots of pubs near the finish area. You will find a thread on this very topic in www.boards.ie closer to the time, where runners will arrange to meet.

It's the only thing that gets me round any run!

I had a nice pint and two Angus beef burgers in sun after the Edinburgh marathon, in what was possibly the best after race finishing zone ive found yet

Some great tips Linda and as others have said a cracking time.

I'm coming over with the family and wondered where is the best place for them to watch. ie with a little bit of walking, can they see me at more than one place?

Welcome Linda. I have lots of Family in Crumlin and so my big issue is not letting them know I am in town prior to the race as trying a "dry" weekend with close family would be to hard in Dublin for me. I will call them up after.

The forum seems to be starting to buzz now and training is kicking off. I start Monday but have a nice local 10k tomorrow. Its going to be a lovely day and so just going to enjoy the sun and run!

How was every ones runs and races, I did a 14miler and boy was it hot out today!!

07/07/2013 at 21:23

SJPC14, hot, hot, hot........its was only a 10k race for me but tried to run it quite hard. Really hard second 1/2 of the race and I thought I was going to die. I am sure Dublin will be a little colder in Oct!

Well done on 14 miles, that must have been a long time out there in the sun?

Anymore updates out there?

My last day of rest. 16 weeks of pure enjoyment to look forward to!!!!

Atom Ant, It is tough going racing in the heat, long slow runs are bad, but least your body isn't heating up as much as it does in races. And yes October in Dublin should be cooler!!

Ah James, so today is the first day of Dublin taking over your life!! Welcome! he he

6 mile plod this morning - "roasting hot"

Had a 9 mile slow jog on Friday and must say I struggled last few miles! - lacking general stamina, and confidence took a bit of a knock as well.

Hopefully it will all fall into place over the next few months.

Hi Peter.
They can easily see you at the start, maybe on O'Connell St which is only a few minutes walk from the start. Alternatively they could head out to the Phoenix Park and see you around the 5 mile mark and then come back into town for the finish. That would entail a short taxi journey or a trip on the Luas followed by a walk of circa 1 mile. I'm not sure if you have children coming along but if they were old enough they could hire a town bike and cycle out to the park. www.dublinbikes.ie.
Another option may be to get the Luas to Milltown, around the 18 mile mark, see you there and then get the Luas back into town to see you at the finish line. www.Luas.ie.

Hi all,

I've also started the first day of the next 16 weeks this morning - really nice to hear about everyone's training so far!

This is my third marathon, and I'm hoping to do it in 3.30 - my last time was 3.47, so it'll be a bit of a push, but hopefully doable...

Thanks for the tips Linda - really useful.

Good luck Scoopy.

I hope it cools down fo my run later. But the schedule says only 4 miles, so 4 miles it will be.

Booking the boat this week.

Dont worry Bracken your get there, just give it time and dont fret to much about form until nearer the time.

Hello Scoopy and welcome , your 3.47 time and aim to get into the 3.30s , is what im doing, my PB being 3.48. So i'll see you there, we could even team up for the first half. I think there was someone else on here with a similar target as well.

Well done on sticking to the schedule James, sometimes it can be very tempting to do more. Hopefully as we are all back at work now, we should  miss the worse of the heat, until the weekend. By which time it might of cooled down.

A boat!! nice!

One down. 79 sessions to go!

08/07/2013 at 22:36

Thanks for the info Linda.

No kids coming so bikes could be an option. Knowing my loy though they will probably wave me off at the start then sit in a pub and wait for me to finish

09/07/2013 at 08:37

You counting the sessions down James! I'm sticking to weeks and week 4 begins tonight. * miles with 10*100 M strides
