cheers will give them a try and let you know how it goes

It will be a case of trial and error, what suits one doesnt suit another. Nows the time to find out what suits you best and can fit into place come race day, that goes with everything.

I need to try some gels too.

So far, I have had jelly babies or tootie fruities in 2 half mara's I've done, but interestingly, only water in my pb. I've tried Gatorade on a couple of LSR's recently, literally a couple though (I've used one pack of 4 bottles in several months!).

SIS headoffice is based in the village where I live. I'm told that you can buy products over the counter at reception - I may just amble on down there and investigate......... Maybe they'll be cheaper  than "tinternet"

People seem to be saying they are less sickly sweet which would probably suit me better.

I guess once you get over half mara distance you need stuff like this ????

23/10/2009 at 10:23

i can get round my half with just water with no probs but like you say i think we will start needing stuff on the longer runs

morning all, i've entered Edinburgh on the back of a VLM rejection, i've done plenty of halfs but this is my first full marathon, hoping you lot will be around for a bit of advice, if i get a bit scared! (sorry for butting in)
23/10/2009 at 11:23

you're not butting in, the more the merrier i say. this will be my first full marathon too and like you most of us are VLM rejects as well

once again WELCOME TOWNER

Welcome along to the VLM rejection club towner.

Can't promise much help here but we'll see what we can do. Now then, just jump up on to the couch and close your eyes.

Trust me I'm a doctor!

some good advice re gels and water.  I don't usually carry anythihng with me but have only managed 10 miles on my own.  During half marathons there are enough water facilities.  I tried teh SIS gel and although struggled opening it and then got covered in the sticky stuff it was OK and helped (maybe all in the mind).  NOt tried jelly babies but hey any excuse to eat sweets is fine by me.  I have been thinking about a camel back as I am aware it will be difficult upping the miles.

First marathon so not sure on time but like Caz hoping to be around 5 hours

Think I need to change my prediction to a 3.01. We're not running until May and the pressure is already getting to me.

No running this weekend for me. It's beer, bands and the blades (football - sorry) might be a week or so to recover but hope to do something by Tuesday evening to get me back on the straight n narrow.

Hope I don't get so drunk that I eat a Donner Kebab - aarrrrggghhhh

24/10/2009 at 06:37

beer and bands sounds great but BLADES now thats just a step too far

P.S  blades have never been football lol, if you want to see football come and see the spireites

Mr Plodder is a Bristol City Fan! Since I dragged him "up north", he mostly has to make do with away matches.

No prizes for guessing who I support ........Blackburn Rovers - Come On You Blues!!.

I'm also having a beery night tonight (curry will be involved ), so long run tomorrow will probably go out the window.

24/10/2009 at 10:19
good work mr plodder!!, a few years ago, i worked for a company whos northern branch was managed by a guy called Bill Bancroft, he was the then chairman of Blackburn Rovers! ive been up to Ewood a few times in the past met a few of the players (ex players now) and had a good look round the dressing rooms etc......(not a patch on Ashton Gate mind!)

R-Dave...you need to get a grip. Whats wrong with a Kebab and who else supports the blades. Have they got over the Tevez thing yet.

24/10/2009 at 14:12
im having a relax night gonna enjoy the extra hour in bed then up for porridge and off to the worksop half for me, a PB would be nice, but just to make it round with no probs is always a plus
24/10/2009 at 14:52

Angie...good luck for tomorrow. I'm sure you will do well, but try more liquid and a gel and see how it goes.
