I'm doing the South Devon half next Feb. It's my first off road race with the exception of a couple of adventure races and i don't really know what to expect. Has anyone who's done it before got any advice for training? At the moment I'm training as if it's a normal half but should I be adding more hill training? Also what footware do people recomend?
There is a video on utube showing parts of the race, so have a look at that! http://video.google.com/videosearch?q=utube&rls=com.microsoft:en-gb:IE-SearchBox&ie=UTF-8&oe=UTF-8&sourceid=ie7&rlz=1I7ADBS&um=1&sa=X&oi=video_result_group&resnum=4&ct=title#q=devon%20marathon&emb=0
From the running i know if i was youi would do a couple of off road races through the winter and some hilly long runs. Good luck!!
Hi all
I'll be doing the half at this one. Survived (and survived is the word) the half at Dorset last month and I'm off to attempt the marathon at the Gower event ooooh...next week!! Very nervous.
They are excellent events, very challenging and definitely require trail shoes! Get some hill training in and be prepared for a bit of walking! My half time at Dorset was nearly an hour and a half slower than my normal time...but it was very very muddy!
