Update on Helsby half website:
17 Jan: Some light snow in the area this evening, nothing substantial. The key days for a decision will be Friday and Saturday.
Lots of snow in Shropshire now
Is there somewhere warm that members of my family can wait and drink/eat while race is on? Anything fun for kids?
It's at a sports club so there's a bar/function room and usually a BBQ going too.
So - how many feet of snow is Helsby currently under?
http://www.helsbyrunningclub.org.uk/ for the latest news.
I'd wager it will be on.
Quite a lot of snow has fallen in the North West since their last update, so will be interesting to see if there is an update later.
Yeah - I expect so too. But, Helsby probably has had quite a bit of snow today, and if that doesn't melt in the next few days could be slippery underfoot come sunday. Not sure how much of route will be on treated roads...isn't some of it on a cycleway?
Just driven thro the start line and the main road is clear, and about an inch on the pavement
No It's all on roads
It's all on roads but they're nearly all minor country roads so will not have been treated. The start-line being clear is pretty meaningless in this context, the route diverts on to minor roads after about a mile.
And I also drove the finish hill (smarty) and thats all pretty clear as are the rest of the roads in the area
Suppose it also depends how low the temp goes as there is a lot of moisture around which could convert to ice.
Sorry, didn't mean to sound like a smarty! That was for the benefit of those who don't know the route and might think that the route was all on main roads.
I suppose all it takes is a couple of snowy/icy stretches to render it too dangerous to run. I hope it's on, I grew up in Helsby and have run this race every year since 2005.
Thanks for update Steve, I don't have any trail shoes though...will wellies do?
Trail shoes before Sunday? Think not - wellies or duvet here!
is there anywhere to store a kit bag at the start?
im thinking the car park is a park and ride away and warm clothes before hand will need somewhere to leave them. Not sure a bin bag with 2 arm holes cut out is going to keep me warm for this one
