*Race cancelled as jogger hit by car on course*

19/01/2013 at 10:52

Anyone know what would happen in the event of cancellation? Would they rearrange or refund?

I'm in Warrington and no snow apart from what fell yesterday. I think the race will go ahead as Frodsham weather seems to be dry but its the ice isn't it. That's only my opinion but I'm sure the organisers have enough experience between them to make the right decision.

Fingers crossed.

If iit does go ahead, which considering lots of outside events have been cancelled, would be surprised ... the decision has to be made on an individual basis on how experienced we are running on ice and suitable trainers for the conditions - I have neither!

90 mile drive tomorrow would be foolish - broken ankle after slipping on ice on a Cheshire lane would be a disaster! Decision made, going to the pub

Well it's a race that's been going on for years, so they should know what they are doing.

Hope HOPE it's not cancelled.

Trail shoes, running on main roads, is fine in south Manc anyway....Try getting some Yaktrax Pro's to fit on your shoes...£8 ebay, with £6 postage....Stops you slipping on ice.

Race cancelled on website..

Just seen this on the Helsby running club website.

(A pity but the only sensible thing to do)

Race Cancelled!

19 JANUARY: With great regret, the race is cancelled. The course has been assessed by several experienced race organisers and is not safe to run. The police would not pass the route on their inspection tomorrow so we wanted to give people as much notice as we could. There are long stretches of compacted snow which will not shift in the next 24 hours. We've been working hard with shovels to clear the club area, but the real problem is out on the country lanes which are not clear. We really enjoy putting on the race and putting back into the community, but it's simply not safe for our runners. Please spread the word.

We'll try and get some pictures up later to show you the state of the course.

To everyone that has entered and supported us in this great race — SORRY!

We'll be in touch with more information when we have it. Thanks!

The race is officially off, I drove the course this morning and it was the right decision. Be safe out there folks!

Gutted, but sensible decision by the organisers. It's just not safe at the moment for road running around Helsby. Oh well, bring on the Liverpool Half in March. Been thinking that this was an omen and someone up there thinks that I shouldn't have been that crazy to try and run a half marathon a month after finishing cancer treatment. Shame it was all over the local paper
Anyway, main reason is the raise funds for the Hospice of the Good Shepherd, as I am running the London marathon for them. Any donations are welcome at:

What a shame - right decision though.

Nathalie ... As my wife works at H.O.G.S , would like to point you in the direction of Village Bakery Half on 17th Feb . in Wrexham . Would be good preparation for London .

Good call from the organisers
I'm disappointed but its the right decision.

Same here gutted but relieved at same time.   Snow is starting up again here.

Thanks Kevin, but will just stick with Liverpool in March now and keep training. Done Wrexham before and didn't like course too much. Next race is Llandudno 10K for me on 10/2

Ok Nat , see you at the pier head in March , weather permitting

It's a shame it's been cancelled but understandable decision and good early communication from the organisers.

I thought it was going to go ahead but I was wrong. Was a very good decision from the organisers, I just hope they reschedule it

Hope they reschedule too
