Gutted, but sensible decision by the organisers. It's just not safe at the moment for road running around Helsby. Oh well, bring on the Liverpool Half in March. Been thinking that this was an omen and someone up there thinks that I shouldn't have been that crazy to try and run a half marathon a month after finishing cancer treatment. Shame it was all over the local paper
Anyway, main reason is the raise funds for the Hospice of the Good Shepherd, as I am running the London marathon for them. Any donations are welcome at: www.justgiving.com/Nathalie-Rees

What a shame - right decision though.

Nathalie ... As my wife works at H.O.G.S , would like to point you in the direction of Village Bakery Half on 17th Feb . in Wrexham . Would be good preparation for London .

Thanks Kevin, but will just stick with Liverpool in March now and keep training. Done Wrexham before and didn't like course too much. Next race is Llandudno 10K for me on 10/2

Ok Nat , see you at the pier head in March , weather permitting

It's a shame it's been cancelled but understandable decision and good early communication from the organisers.

I thought it was going to go ahead but I was wrong. Was a very good decision from the organisers, I just hope they reschedule it

Hope they reschedule too

Thought they suggested yesterday that it wouldn't be rescheduled due to all the other races in the area ?

Still the right decision, just driven the course. Non gritted roads covered in compacted snow/ice and slush. Finish cul-de-sac has slush and snow in the school entrance.

Does anyone know what happens to the race fees if nbot rescheduled i.e. refunds or not?

20/01/2013 at 15:10

They don't usually give refunds Antony .

They have to pay for road closures, traffic management, police in advance so can't imagine it will b possible to refund. It's unfortunate but we all knew the potential was there in Jan. great club great race. I'll b in for it next year.

When Wrexham was cancelled a couple of years ago they offered  a refund if you returned your number etc, or the opportunity to donate your fee to a local charity. But I don't think there was the same cost involved, it is run round an Industrial estate rather than through a busy town/village across an A road

Given that no-one actually profits from an old-fashioned club organised race like this, I'm quite happy to forfeit the fee as I know the surplus is distributed locally.

Right decision but annoying none the less. From own view point getting there wouldn't have been a problem but getting back on Sunday would have been so lucky in a way.

Anyone know what would happen in the event of cancellation? Would they rearrange or refund?

Just seen a e-mail saying they are going to give a refund of what they can. At the end of the day they don't have to rearrange or give refunds under the term's and conditions. So personally happy for them to keep it for the club funds They have paid for all the cost's and there was no race.

They can keep my entry fee also, just one of those things that happens once in a while!! Don't fancy seeing a small running club in financial difficulty due to paying for road closures, race numbers, chip timing etc and then giving refunds.

Can anyone suggest any other HM's in the area? I did Liverpool last year and would rather find a different one.
