Gloucester Marathon

Can't even start thinking about next year yet!  Snowdonia will be my last marathon this year - usually an epic event what with the hills and weather - and then I will be able to turn my thoughts to this nice trot around Gloucestershire country lanes under a watery blue sky and with the weak January sunshine casting its long rays over the meadows, and the rooks croaking around the church towers.

Hi KP. Training has started nicely in my opinion. I am steadily trying to build the miles back from around 30/week at the moment. Once i've got an average of 50/week i'll start adding in some speed sessions. Fingers crossed for the time being.

I have entered this. What is the course profile like? Flatish I am reliably informed.

All being well I hope to go sub 3 hours. Hopefully, nearer to 2:55. Training is going well.

Hi Gary W - Two smallish rises I think at opposite ends of each loop - feel less smallish by lap 3 (or 4 ) - otherwise course very flat.  Defintely a PB course I would have thought, but perhaps not in January.

Agree with T-rex. Definitely a PB course. A day like last year will be good.

Thanks for the info. It's a bit far to recce the course, being up in Mancehster. Nice to know it's flat.

Hi all. I've not completed a full marathon yet but have won a place in VLM. I have completed many half marathons including Leicester on 10/10/10 in 1.51 and regularly do 20 mile training runs. Would you recommend this course as a first time or is there a different option you can think of in Jan-March timescale in prep for VLM.

There isn't a lot in Jan and Feb and you will be pushing it in recovery terms to run in March and agin at VLM.

Andrew N - I can't think of any other road marathons in UK Jan/Feb.  If you feel you're up to two marathons within 3 months, go for it.  But you might be better off having a fast tune-up 20-mile race instead e.g. Gloucester (different course to this) usually first Sunday in March.

I shall be doing about 8:45 miling, frank.  That will land me a PB if I can keep it up.

Hi Frank, I'll probably be doing 9:30-9:40ish miles, I fully expect to be one of the last people to finish.

I'm in! Target: PB!

Anyone going to try for about 8.15 for the 50k?

Hi all,

Well done le-runner, great run.  I did a 30 mile ride and a 5.5ish mile run yesterday.  Was meant to go to the track tonight but missed it because I was stuck at work.  Got the Dublin marathon next Monday so it's a taper week for me.

How's everyone else going?
