James I dont think it has ever been held before. As far as I am aware it is part of Steve Prescotts fundraising efforts. he is a former rugby player who has been diagnosed with cancer I think. I guess it is worth doing to support as good cause and because it is a race in St helens and there doesnt seem to be many of them. I woul do it but am on holiday that week.

Hi James & Gladys. This is indeed the first holding of this event and it is part of the Steve Prescott Foundation fundraising efforts. http://www.steveprescottfoundation.co.uk

Not much other info to add sorry. I do know it's a 2 lap race though and there are some challenging hills (that will be even more challenging on the 2nd lap). Hope it's going to get a good turn out and that it becomes a regular race.

Looking forward to this race. The first in my home town but the prospect of running up North Road twice is daunting . At least everyone should be able to manage a sprint finish down the hill.

In prep I've just run a 5.7 mile route which was 2 laps of ... from Hard Lane up and down North Road and City Road, plus a loop round the outside the park.

Quite shocked that we have any hills that big in St Helens - it feels like they have found the biggest hill in town then just plotted a route that runs up and down it over again.

Sunday won't be the fastest 6 miles I've ever run ... its one to relax and enjoy I think.

Only just 'discovered' this race, although it says official entries now closed, the web site also says RACE DAY REGISTRATION OPEN AT 8.00am, does anyone know if they are accepting entries on the day?

thanks

Sorry I've only just seen your post treadmiller - no entries on the day

It was a good run. Amazed at the turnout for a first time event. The hills were not too pleasant but the spectators were noisy

Personal thanks to the organisers, marshalls and spectators for what I thought was a nice and friendly run. A nice mix of club runners, fun runners and plenty of rugby players too

Big  thanks to Steve Prescott - he should be very proud of this event, as it was his concept and he obviously worked very hard to get it on - even dishing out t shirts in asda.  Very,  very enjoyable.  The route was hard but was great for spectators who could see the start and finish, plus two 'passes' of North Road.  The double-back along North Rd and Bishop Rd allowed everyone to spot each other and I was amazed at how many people I knew.  All my wife's photos where of Paul Sculthorpe though??? What's that about?

Well done Steve and I hope this goes from strength to strength.

well done steve and the organisers of this run   As a running club snail who has done quite a few 10km runs, it was great to see a vert well organised, well supported run/race.  My head has been playing mindgames with the running the last 8 months meaning I did 2 DNFs recently It was very very humbling to see Corporal Andy Reid  coming down North Road just as I was going up for the second time.   Gave me the push i needed and sorted my head out.  As per previous posters thought the route was hard and maybe could put some first timers off.  However plenty of support and I was able to spot my b/f who is miles faster that me twice coming down the opposite side of the road.  Would definately consider this one next year as it would be great training for the Mersey Tunnel 10km.

Once again well done

Totally agree with the comments, brilliant race, excellently organised. Nice to see everyone out running !! Managed my pb of 43.58 so very proud to have achieved that in my hometown!! Thanks again !

Julie - that's fast!  Incredible that you set a PB on such a hilly course - it was my first 10 k so no idea how much quicker I'd have been on the flat. I was 4 mins behind you.

I run really slow up the hills but I really sprint down them - its possible I'd be slower on the flat!

Cheers was really pleased with my time, this was my second 10k i did Birchwood 10k and got 50.04 so was made up!! Got to say it is the speed training at the club which has definately improved me physically and mentally!!

The hills were a shock to me! I didn't realise that was going to go up that hill four times! It was a great event and I will be there next year hopefully. Can we have a medal next time?
