Anyone doing any of these races, there's a Marathon, 16 mile and 8 miles races?

I'm entering the 8 miler.

Tempted by 8 miler... Details?

Hi Jon the 8 miler starts at 8.25am! The full details and the entry form are on the
website at

and it's flat!

Thinking of the 16, the last before NY. Will make my mind up sometime next week.

Definitely going to do the 8, I would have liked to do the 16 this time but, well, maybe next time!

I do this race every time, as its my local race, even though they seem to put the price up every time it is run!

Annajo, I've never this one before, is it good?
19/09/2002 at 12:04
I'm doing the 8 miler. Nice flat course, close to home too! Looking forward to getting my free finishers mug

8 miles before 9.30am on a SUNDAY?!!!!!! Thats almost as stupid as doing an ultra!
19/09/2002 at 12:14
19/09/2002 at 12:34 should get you there. I've done several of these as it's close enough to walk there and back as well as do the run itself, and am doing the 16 this time round. However, I'm tending to agree with fellow club people that they are too expensive for minimal marshalling and a ridiculously early start. And those bl**dy cheap white mugs......

Caz, I really like these races, because there is a really good atmosphere, especially when you get to the finish area in Kingston Town Centre. Also it (the 8M) is one of my regular training runs now because it is mostly flat and a really scenic route for the bit along the river (about 3 miles)As for the road bits of the route, well its dead straight up one road and then up another long straight road, which is a bit of a killer when you are thinking "how far to go", but I think it is worth it.

Im doing the 16 mile as part of my NY training , do it last year , as per other posts , nice and flat couple of inclines when u go over the bridge.
19/09/2002 at 14:57
Oh good, sounds good then by all accounts. I hope I get in now!

This is probably a dumb question (I apologise for my ignorance), but what does BTA number mean on the entry form?
19/09/2002 at 15:00
huh? BTA stands for British Triathlon Association. I hadn't noticed that on the form when i filled it in but maybe they have reused the entry form for the Triathlon that they organise, and forgotten to take the BTA bit out. You might want to make sure that you have the right form, because I nearly took the wrong one, they look very similar.

You should have no problem getting in as long as you apply in time. There won't be entries on the day though, I reckon, as it nearly always fills up about the week or so before the race.
19/09/2002 at 15:03
Annajo, no it's definitely the right form, but like you say perhaps they forgot to take it out!
19/09/2002 at 15:06
I like the way they build it up in the local paper - 16 miles/marathon as the serious option, 8 miles as a 'fun run' for the 'novice runner' - blimey I would maybe consider 2 or 3 miles as a funrun, but I wonder how many people have tried the 8 miler after reading the paper's reviews, without realising just how much of a long way 8 miles really is to a novice runner!

I called about 2 weeks ago they had around 1000 applicants , there is a number on the website if your worried about not getting in.
19/09/2002 at 16:17
Cheers RR. Just called the number and they said they were still taking entries. So the cheque's in the post and fingers crossed! This will be my warm up for The Cabbage Patch 10 the following week (if I get in there too!).

There's a fair group of us doing this; probably the 8 miler after the Wimbledon 10 the week before
