Still very cold today, but got out for 12m @8.22 ave pace. Was aiming for 8.30, but felt good, so continued at faster pace. A bit of base building ready for Jan training proper.
Don't worry about my name change, it's something we do every Christmas on my other thread, it'll be back to normal in Jan.
How's everyones training going?

Well done Simon  - briiant pace. It was a cold day  - I have decided to not enter this one. Not nearly ready. But will be looking in to see how everyone is doing as would like to do it next year. I did a nice steady 3 miler after much drinking with an old friend last night. Epx

Nice running Simon,

I ran 40:18 at Wrexham 10K today which was a big PB for me. Cold morning, grim surroundings (sorry Wrexham!) but a flat course and well organized race. Back now to base building for the next few weeks.

EP - At least you got out there for a run. I presume when you say next year you mean 2014?

X-post with Gaz - Nice 10k and a Pb, and so close to sub40

I'm satisfied up to now.  Just doing lots of miles and one or two tempos a week at present.  I'll add a little more speed and a longer midweek run in January when the training proper starts.

Getting sore feet on the soles which is annoying, a tad uncomfortable but not stopping me running.  I usually run it off after 1-3 miles but am hoping that with stretching and massage, it'll go before the hard training starts.

Great 10k Gaz, so close to sub 40 too, must have been a little frustrating even though it was a cracking time and a PB?

A little SB, I also ran a HM PB of 1:30:09 a couple of weeks back so I;m getting used to falling just short of the nice, round numbers!

SB - Re your sore soles, do you run in racing flats, or minimalist shoes, ie no cushioning?

Great effort yesterday Gaz ! i ran 42.29 still got a long way to go to get fitness back, but its coming ! 3.5 mins slower than my last 10k. Gaz your doing the half are'nt you ?

I ran 1.25 there the other year so you should easily get under 1.30 mate.

Ouch, 10 second shy of a BIG milestone, that hurts.

Nope.  I have a fairly neutral gait so just wear the basic Asics Gel 1170s.

Signed up for Manchester last night, my second marathon after doing VLM this year. Looking forward to concentrating on the training once Christmas is out of the way.

SB - Thanks, I am a girl though lol.
I am torn between Manchester and MK, MK being in May had the natural advantage as I havent been training . .then I noticed they were a week apart lol. Think MK 'cos its nearer. But will keep an eye out here as its been a really friendly thread too. Good luck guys x

miss this thread! I have started one for the Marathon of the North in Sunderland (on the same day as Manchester) A couple of others are using the thread but not nearly so active as this one. Maybe it will be used more as time goes by. I have not entered GMM as fancied a change for my 2nd marathon. Training gradually getting started after a car accident nearly 2 weeks ago. I skidded on ice and turned my car on its side. Car a write off but I walked away shaken and bruised but otherwise ok. Trying to build up my runs again but not easy in the weather conditions. Hope training is going well and I will be thinking of you all on the day when I line up at the Stadium of Light!

Hi all, could you recommend any hotels which are in a good location for the start/finish please? We're not from Manchester so want to stay over the night before, but I cannot find any packages for hotels the night before. Thanks,
