Hi Wrexhamrob, may just join you, this will be my first marathon I'm looking at around 4:30 target but depending upon how the training goes may join you at 4:45 (especially if you've got a secret bus for us to use )
Hi Nelly you're welcome I'm not sure there'll be a secret bus, I'd say there'll be a noisy magic bus , noise fun and lots of cameraderi support. I usually run 4:30 ish, tomorrow I'm running Shrewsbury marathon -as usual hoping for a sub 4:17 pb but it's a lot more hilly than Chester . What's your 1/2 marathon time ? -mine is usually around 1:50, the marathon is a different beastie
my HM PB is 2:06 although i was carrying a bit of a hip injury at the time (actually I seem to carry an injury whenever i race I think it's an age thing ), so 4:30 may be a bit optermistic, although hoping to get my half time below 2 hours at the Thames Meander in August. Good luck with Shrewsbury.
Hello all, happy weekend!
jason - I like the idea of your pyramid session, might have to steal that one
wrexhamrob - good luck with Shrewsbury! I may join your pacing group once I see how I find the longer long run distances later in the training programme. My half maras have been between 1:56 and 2:16 so if I can keep that up in training 4:45 might be a good target. The 2:16 half marathon was holiday sightseeing not a proper effort (I found the sports massage at the end more of an ordeal but was too British to complain!) but my next slowest 2:13 was a proper effort on a bad asthma day so there's always that variable... will see how it goes...
Hello all. An uncomfortable 20mi for me this morning. Had stomach cramps most of the way and had to stop and squat behind a tree a couple of times. Lovely. So glad when it was over.
IQ- steal away I can use my legs again today
15West- well done
8m for me with Parkjog in the middle of it- came first as none of the faster runners were there today Recoery run later- recovery week next week
I am running the marathon can anyone tell me how many hills on route and how high roughly and at how many mile sin , which will help with training thanks
Rudi there's only 2 hills, one short 300yard at 14 miles at Fardon just after going over the river, then another cheeky but short 509 yds max at mile 24 , after Huntingdon and crossing a55, and just getting into city. Do a little hill training and they won't be a problem -- so long as you ve some energy at mile 24
wrexhamrob - Great to hear you're pacing, I'm sure it'll be much appreciated by those with a target in mind. Do you know what other paces it's hoped to cover? The website doesn't seem to say.
Do you know what the climbs are on these two hills?
I don't think the climbs are large 50/100ft - ill check my garmin record last year . Pace runners are every 15 minute from 3 hour to 5 hour, with a pair pacing; we've just had email so I'd guess in a few days there'll bI more info on website
The hills are noticeable, but not an issue- mile 24 was 10 secs slower than 25 for me
thanks for advice re hills
entered this race last night. it will be my second marathon after London 2012! looking forward to it,sort of!!
wrexhamrob and jason d - Thanks for the responses.
A nice and steady 18m in 2.13.27 (exactly the same as last week as it happens!) for me this morning, and a 4.25m recovery run this evening to round off the week. A pleasing week with the 1 hour sub 2.45 MP session, the pace of the pyramid intervals and the weekly mileage Next week- recovery
Weekly stats: 107.06m in 13.33.00 (7.36 av)
Thinking of entering this one as Liverpool has been cancelled.
I have done the last 2 Liverpool marathons. Could anybody tell me of any particular differences between Chester and Liverpool as I have not done any other marathon. Also does anybody know approximately when/if Chester is likely to be fully booked up?
jason d - That's just fantastic, well done!
Nilsatis - ive not done Lpool , but Chester organisation is slick - some country lanes may be quiet, but ALL support points are great and noisy.
Ive just had a great day out at Shrewsbury & blogged.
Jason - some really impressive stats there. I am up to about 70mi a week and am feeling a bit blooming knackered.
wrexhamrob - well done at shrewsbury - sounds like a pretty good marathon, risky time of the year to hold a marathon weather wise - but I guess it's risky holding a marathon at any time of the year in this country!
12mi for me today.
48 miles for me this week
