Can I ask a novice marathon runner question? I noticed on the Facebook page for the marathon that the cut off time is six hours. What happens at Chester if you go over the cut off? Do you get disqualified or not get told your time?

Good question, to which I do not know the answer, Steve. However, in other marathons, I think they tend to send a 'sweep van' round at the equivalent pace (i.e. 6 hours), and offer the chance for back markers to get a lift. If they refuse, which they can do, I think they are asked to continue on pavements / edge of the road, as the roads may be opened shortly after.

Thanks Dan. I'm hoping to get round at least a bit faster than 6 hours but it's always good to know.

Hi all, after a lot of ummmming & arrrrring I've decided to bite the bullet and sign up for this as my first Marathon (It will be 3 weeks before my 55th!!!).

Just seems a big step up from halfs, doing warwick half in march so hopefully time enough to step up training for this, see you all there.

Well done NellyP. I'm in the same boat. Just have discipline myself to do the training

Andover parkrun felt like a marathon this morning carrying all that mud around!!!

Ok ladies and gents. I thought I'd pass on an update after my second training run today. I ran about three miles in half an hour, then came home and weighed myself for a start point. 17 st 4, so I'm bigger than I thought. I have nine months to get to race shape. At least I've made a start lol

Steve I don't know about last year as I didn't do the race, but the year before, we were on our way  home and we saw the sweep vehicles clearing the road, there were still plenty of runners, and I can't see the organisers not giving them a medal really.  I wonder if it's something to do with insurance and road closures etc?

Not far at all Ashman, are you doing any other races in the near future?

13/01/2013 at 09:47
Thanks Mr Puffy. I'm just aiming to get round in one piece really. I've not set myself a time I'd like to finish in. I'm doing it for the achievement of it coz I'm never going to be a three hour marathon runner B-)

They are usually at the Four Villages half leafleting so I will ask them if I see them next week.

Never say never Steve, hard graft and you never know. Enjoy your first marathon, get round, learn what you did right and wrong, swear you'll not do another and then enter another.
After a bad year injury wise, I had a huge smile crossing the line last year, felt like I'd earned it.

Six hour time limit, GraemeK but I won't care if it takes me 5.59.59. Until I convince myself differently in October, my only other PLANNED marathon is Edinburgh in May 2014. My original goal was to run a half in 2012. Now I've done two of them, I want to try my luck in a marathon. Good idea or bad, I don't know. Only one way to find out...

What do the experiance people think I should be looking at as a training plan, This being my first Marathon, I've done a few 10 miles, one half marathon (and Warwick half coming up in March). my times so far suggest a sub 4:30 marathon, should I look at a sub 4:30 training plan or as it"s such a big step should I be really looking at a get me round plan?

Any thoughts

Mr Puffy

Doing Four Villages next week, Wrexham Village Bakery in Feb probably Manchester in April might do Liverpool half as well think its in March or may, and Chester half ! What are you doing ?

I was a marshall for this last year they do have a sweep up vehicle.

15 miles this morning on the treadmill as it was to slippy here, running on the treadmill seems to last for ever.

The A race this season ended up being the Paris marathon ...... I'm suppose to be a triaflete !

Hi everyone, I've signed up for this, I've also signed up for the 1/2 in May.  The most I've ran before is 10k, but hopefully by the time October comes round I'll be ready for it
