Just signed up for the neolithic marathon, Avebury to Stonehenge. How exciting! Anybody else doing any of the distances? It's my first marathon....

I was looking at this one too.  I'm tempted by the marathon.

£25 early bird entry at the moment including the free shuttle bus, not bad value. Planning to park at Stonehenge and get the bus to the start.

thanks - i'll make my mind up soon then!

It's a brilliant first trail marathon.  It was my first marathon last year and I've already signed up for this years event - £25 is a bargain!  Gorgeous views, well organised and lots of friendly runners.  I picked an injury around 10/11km from the end so had a bit of a nightmare but up to that point I loved it!  Revenge will be mine

Only 8 weeks to go. How's your training going? I am following the plan on cool running, did 20 miles over the purbecks on Sunday. Feeling good right now.

Frogbmth - You've picked a fantastic event for your first marathon.   Quite tough in places if you're not ready for it.   Obviously with 20 miles over the purbecks already under your belt  you'll be OK.      Just stick to your training plan   and watch out for the wildlife.

Done it last year as my first marathon and enjoyed it.

It's a lovely event and great organization.

Me and my other half are doing this (his first marathon, my second) and we are really looking forward to it as we live on Salisbury Plain and it'll be nice to see a bit more of it.

Just a question for those who have done this before....what happens with bag storage? Is there bag storage? We are getting the bus down to Avebury from Stonehenge.

Thank you.

Yes, they will take your bag from Avebury to Stonehenge.

Really tempted to sign up for this one!

Can anyone please tell me if it involves much navigation/map reading or is it signed/marked?

I am hoping it is sign posted cos I am no good at map reading! I nearly got lost at 54321 last year on the way back through town so if I can't navigate in a city centre I have no hope on the trails.

I did it last year and the signage was fine.

Have fun!

Thank you guys and good luck!

I did the full walk a few years ago, no map reading was required then. As I recall the first half has a few steepish up & downs but it levels out 2nd half. I'm wondering whether I'm up for the Half this year, decisions, decisions...

See you there next weekend, Stratford HM tomorrow as a warm up.

Hello all! I'm also doing the marathon this coming Sunday, and cannot wait. First one ever.

Do any of the old hands remember what the terrain is like? I'm wavering between road shoes, or light trail shoes. I don't mind a bit of mud on the way, but hate having to go over miles of tarmac on trail shoes.

Thanks so much - and see you all at the start!
