I want to enter this but does anyone know how "slow runner" friendly it is?

I just want to plod round and enjoy this, and don't mind coming last, but don't want to keep the marshalls from going home!

It's a lovely run Duck and no problem for the slower plodders. I took my daughter round it in about 1:45 last year and there were plenty coming in behind us. Well organised and friendly marshalls.

Running Duck

I did this race in 2005 and it was 32+C and I finished in 2hrs 10mins and the clock was still there.

I looked at the results list from last year's race, which I ran and the last person home was around the 2:30hr mark. So if you want a plod the this race will allow you.

It was a well organised race and runs through some beautiful scenery and this year there is ChampionChip Timing Chips.

I'll be there hoping for a PB, this year.

is there much there to do for the family i.e kids if they came down?

Limpette and I have just entered again for this years race. Love it.

Paul, I recall a bouncy castle and a cafe bus. There is also a nice little childrens fun run at the start. Easy to park and have a bit of a walk as well. Several loos [essential family info!!].

Paul Sly

The start and finish is in a large field with cafe and entertainment for people whilst the race is on. There are toilets which get busy before the race but are very quiet afterwards.

Kids races are held and you enter on the day. The organisers try and market it as a family day out and it is not far off that.

This year, the race is being "Chip Timed." I presume we will be sent "a chip" to tie onto our laces.

Hope the weather is not too hot. Last year wasn't too bad, but the year before was unbearably hot, with many walking.

I run this race every year, despite the heat.

oooh I fancy this - I would do the half but it's on my birthday so um, no.

I'm from Southampton originally and did a lot of DofE walks and camping out in the Forest, so quite fancy going back

Bother - I'm going to a big free festival in Reading the day before - not such a good idea then. Bah.

hi all, i have entred this one, love the New Forest and the idea of coming away with a commemorative horse brass medal, it will be my second 10m, what are the chances of a PB compared with the Great South course in '06?
19/03/2007 at 23:07
I don't consider this to be a PB course, when compared with the GSR. There are several climbs which are quite tiring, especially when it is very hot. The gravelly paths can also be tiring on the feet and legs.

By way of comparison, my PB for the New Forest is 61 mins. 30 secs. and the GSR 61 mins. 20 secs.

T E, thanks for giving me an idea of what to expect, did you use your skate board on the GSR!!!!!!!!!!!!
20/03/2007 at 15:49
I didn't use a skate board, as it would have got stuck in the mud at the race start.

The race starts in a field, where we also park our cars, and you have to dodge the cow pats. It then goes past a farm and some stables, so it is a bit smelly. It then goes into the forest, mainly on gravelly paths, although there is some running on roads.

The race always fills up early and there is no entry on the day. You can enter on line, which is what I did.

Well I have finally got off my backside and entered this. Been meaning to all along, but hadn't realised it was coming up fast.

Chips eh? In the heat from 2005 they will be deep fried - yum!
18/04/2007 at 22:37
Well done Brian. You always need to enter this race early, as it can be oversubscribed.

Have you run this one before? I assume you have because of your comment re. 2005. You are right, it was hot, hot, hot!

TE

Yes, this will be my third time, so I must like it!

Great race this one, have the entry form on my desk so best get it filled in. 2005 was sooo hot but since then they have moved it forward a couple of hours, seem to recall it was still quite warm last year though? Surprisingly enough in 2005 I would have thoughts it would have been cooler in the sahed of the firest, but if anything it seemed to trap the heat!

Hi all,

Am also up for this again - will be my fourth time and is just my favourite race of them all!

For PB's, it's been my last two 10M PB's although I'm not sure if that's because it's home turf.....haven't done a lot of other 10M's when I've been fully fit, and am hoping to rectify that this year, but notwithstanding the PB potential, this is a lovely course and there's plenty for spectators including children to do. It is usually pretty sunny and hot tho, so be prepared for that (but then again, there's lots of water available and loads of support)

Looking forward to returning!
