Cheers Sal, Orbutt
Yer Maj - You're gonna wish you hadn't asked, but here goes... Remembrance Day run last year felt fine and I got a PB, but was limping by the end of the day with pain in my right knee. Me and physio figured it's ITB, so I've been doing stretches and exercises since and building my runs back up.
It's been at the back of my mind that my gait must have changed somehow as I've never had ITB bother before. Couple of weeks ago I had a brainwave that the problem started six weeks after I began using a new orthotic, so I went back to my old ones as a test. Hey presto, problem cleared up instantly, champagne, celebrations etc etc. Altho problems I had with pinched nerves in my feet from the old orthics are back. Then on Friday I woke up about 3am with a pain on both sides of my left achilles. Can't work out what's caused it as I didn't run on Thursday and I'm still limping three days later with no sign of improvement.
So, do I go back to the new othotics and put up with pain in the right knee? Or do I stick with the old orthotics and put up with numbness in my toes when I run (assuming the achilles pain clears)? Or go to the podiatrist and try an even newer set of orthotics? Or give minimalist running a shot and see what happens? Or saw my legs off?
If I can't figure out what the solution is soon, I'm not going to have enough time left to train properly.
