RR - You've qualified for Boston ! You didn't take the short cut ?

Afternoons all. back home and pleased to hear HS is still alive  Sounds like it was a laugh

Sounds like fun all round - Ekiden, Kent. How did everyone else get on?

Had a great time in Amsterdam - love that city, love the course. We bumped into Brix on the start line (she's v nice) so the three of us ran the first few k together, before Emmy left us for dust. Brix and I ran together till about halfway, then got separated at a drinks station. My Garmin went a bit mad - lost satellite three times during the run, so I didn't have a clue what my pace was, but Imaginary Kaz saved the day - telling me when to pick the pace up and when to hold back. She brought me home two minutes under my target time - think she's my guardian angel

And I even managed to avoid getting a tattoo or a piercing while I was over there, mainly because it would have cut into the drinking time available.

Orbutt - or the other option is a sex change. The women's qualifying times are much, much easier than the men's. There are several women on this thread who could do GFA times - I reckon anyone who's done sub 4 is within striking distance for London (3:45 for 40 and under, 3:50 for 41-49, sub 4 for 50-59).

Exactly!

Hey all, congrats to all that ran at the weekend. HS, that zombie run sounds fun!

I decided it was probably wise to get my medical certificate signed with plenty of time to spare so I made an appointment at the doctors today. I went in and he signed it right away. Unfortunately he then decided to check my blood pressure. Turns out I have a rather high blood pressure for someone my age. I've been given a blood pressure monitor to check every morning and evening for the next 7 days. The doctor said to keep the certificate but if the readings are high when i return in 2 weeks there is a chance he won't allow me to race and will send me to a cardiologist!

Fingers crossed for normal results. Anyone else had any problems with their medical certificates?

Steve. This could actually be a good thing.

The blood pressure may be a blip but if it is something that needs looking into it then be grateful it was spotted.

Weedy - could you add 3 races to your marvellous list please?

May 11th - Port Sunlight 10k

June 8th - Mersey Tunnel 10k

September 21st - Warrington Half

Great running at the weekend folks . Well done y'all.

I had our club triathlon in Lossiemoth yesterday. Great fun. And I did a 10K interval session tonight so feeling very pleased with myself.

Weedy - could you update the list please : Glen Moray Distillery 10 mile (me) and 10K (Alison), both 9 November. Thanks.

So......and I really really can't believe I'm actually asking this......has anyone ever done a tough mudder?

21/10/2013 at 21:14

HS - my daughter did one last year and loved it. She did Total Warrier this year. Mad as a hatter!

21/10/2013 at 21:43

Well I've been persuaded to pre-register for next year's scottish one. I've watched the videos and am now terrified! I think I'm going to need to start strength training now!

MacPerky..  well done on sticking with the tri...

HS - a mate of mine did Tough Mudder recently and loved it. He's a gym freak but he thought that there should have been more strength based elements.

You'll be fine.

21/10/2013 at 21:56

HS - DV has a tyre and a bit of rope you may wish  to borrow?

21/10/2013 at 22:03

Hahaha it may come to that! It will be fine. Won't It. It will. I won't regret it at all....

21/10/2013 at 22:05

A few folk from here did  the Scottish Tough Mudder this year, and all managed it fine - but then again I had trained them!!  I am sure with some strength training and your running abilities you will do grand HS!

I thought 'Tough Mud' was what hapened when the ground froze. Shouldn't be a problem HS, just wear trail shoes with good grips. I expect you get lots of frozen ground up there, coming anytime soon. Weather is crazy at the moment. We are expecting 22C here today in Brussels. Hope I get time to take advantage of that with a lunchtime run.

Too much hillwalking in my misspent youth has given me more than enough experience of mud - but, er, have fun.
