SDM - presume you know the area despite it not being on the hills. It's not the prettiest but a nice, cheapish, friendly run down to Hayling Island and back weaving slightly through the people on the Southsea front. What else are you doing 2 days before Christmas?
Helly, depends what you have in mind! Must admit it's a good time to do an event, although I will shorten my usual long run on Boxing Day if I do it.
Go on, you know you want to SDM. It will be my 17th this year and planning on doing it at a nice steady bimble...of course that plan could all go wrong if the weather is unkind to us.
Well I'm out mow due to injury which kind of sucks. Hope everyone else is doing ok and beginning to taper for the race.
On a plus note feel a lot fitter for the training so not all bad!
Have a good race and hope you all get the times you want.
I'm looking forward to this one. Anybody else going from Surrey (Lingfield).
Bad luck Cheshercat....hope you get sorted soon and back out pounding the streets.
I am hoping weather will be good as want to do fancy dress. Not an option if it is blowing a hoolie and raining.
10 sleeps to go till we all meet for a social run along the coast
This will be my first marathon since i started back again after a six month injury lay-off. I must admit I'm relying on my experience to get me round. I'm feeling more confident after todays 17 miles ( 2 hours 16 minutes ) I did it on the treadmill, in the warm, music on. It was easy .
I know it won't be so comfortable next weekend. Hopefully i can create a nice bubble around me to protect me from the elements. The trouble with that tactic is that strong winds can easily blow the bubble away. I'm looking forward to using every mental trick in the book . I know i'll need them regardless of the weather.
So if you see a runner who looks like he is sitting on a magic carpet , say hello because that will be me.
Gonna be MUDDYYYYY
Looking a bit moist this weekend. Haven't done anything since Beachy at the end of October so this may well be a nice slow poodle through the rain for me, hopefully no wind.
Sorry you can't make it Cheshercat.
SDM - my usual Boxing Day run is down to the end of the billy line and back from the opposite direction as long as the tide is out.
Possibly aiming for The Leopold for a post-race warm up.
Looks like an 80's weekend "WET WET WET"
After several months without any injuries whatever - even on the A20 marathon which is all on tarmac - went for a long run along the Downs Link and now both Achilles are sore. Partly my fault for not replacing my trail shoes and not appreciating an old railway line is hard underfoot - unlike the mud that is everywhere else off road!
Am seeing the chiro today, but if I am sensible - which is rare - I won't be running. Very frustrating, particularly at this time of year when I usually up the mileage.
SDM - I feel your pain. Have had a dodgy Achiiles for a while but with regular ultrasound I am managing to stay on top of it. I ran down Downs Link a couple of weekends ago from Christs Hosp to Shoreham and yes...give me hills anyday as that flat hard run was pretty knackering !! I also did A20 marathon which I thought a good event and didn't we have great weather ???
I hope you get your Achilles sorted and you are back to running ASAP.
PH, thanks I feel better already!
I believe you run with Dave Lewis sometimes - you both finished a bit ahead of me at the A20 marathon that I enjoyed more than I expected and encouraged me to think I can get back under 4 yours on a flat marathon like Brighton next year.
Are you a member of the 100MC and do you also do LDWA events like the Winter Tanners?
Is it still good for road shoes???
Trail shoes, it must be bad. Was hoping to wear a santa hat and now Im thinking balaclava and waders! Sounds like it will be a challenge- looking forward to the mulled wine if the going gets really tough
