Reigate Priory Summer 10K

This sounds a nice way to spend a summer evening...

...with the possible proviso that it shares much of its route with the YMCA 5 miler run in May.

At which I had a "mare" due to the heat.

Hopefully, the evening conditions will be a bit more conducive to performance.

Did the YMCA include the big hill about a mile before entering Priory Park? Just what you need about 5 miles into the race on a hot, humid, pollen and fly infested night!!
Might opt to be bag lady to Mr T that night instead!

Just seen the date, what a shame we can't run this one! Was convinced it was later in the month. Oh well, guess we'll have to wait till next year - again!

Tequila: yep, that was the one. I nearly threw up on that hill. Maybe if I had, I might have got a better time.

At least you'll know about it this time! Plus has a lovely down hill after.

Was so knackered after the 'up' that I failed to appreciate any down!

Can anyone compare the hills in Reigate to those on the Croydon 10k course please?! Thanks

Helen, I haven't done the Croydon race, but I'm lead to believe it isn't especially hilly. The Reigate race has two (that I know of) fairly lengthy climbs, not massively steep but long enough to start hurting. Other than that, the route is slightly undulating.

I did the Reigate one last year (my first 10k) and it was a really hot evening, with a hard hill. Much steeper than Croydon, which I think is mostly the Lloyd Park area? But the run down into Priory Park after the hill is lovely.

Anyway, I'm booked in for Reigate so would be nice if any other forumites can make it. I don't think the numbers are that great, only a few hundred runners. I'm mnumber 8 and only booked in weekend before last, so probably plenty spaces left!

Entrants are 250 so far, we tend to get over 100 on the day entries (if the weather is dry!). Good luck to all those running it

If you could arrange for the weather to be dry but not too hot and for my left ankle to behave itself, that would be useful Nattywil.

;-D

And for that hill to be just a little less steep, that would also be good. Thanks!

I ran that hill 3 weeks before giving birth! if I could do it then there is no excuse for you lot!

*hangs head in shame at extreme wussiness*

Yes, miss.

will be there for the fourth time in five years.

before that though, I shall be finishing a 48 hour continuous shift down the salt mines in Nutfield, and then afterwards will be straight off to Dover, en route to cycling the Pyrenees stage of the Tour de France non stop, and without eating or drinking anything in the previous month.

...that's if the Priory Summer 10k hills don't carry me off first.

.. or the men in white coats ;)

Et moi aussi for this race! Still in Franglais mode after a weekend of international running in Le Touquet :)))

I remember "the hill" from running this two years ago ...

Thanks everyone! I'm a bit worried now, but I'm a plodder anyway, so slowing to a walk for a few hundred metres probably won't make much difference.

Helen, looking at last year's results, the last man came in at 1:08 and the last three women at 1:09, 1:15 and 1:16.

Not sure I can do this as I'm recovering (touch wood, fingers crossed) from an injured left leg. If I do run, I will be taking it steady and will be near the back.

I slowed to a walk on that hill too during the 5 mile race in May so you wouldn't be the only one doing that either! :)

I'm looking to run this, but the thought of hills and 28 degree temp this week fills me with trepidation, will there be plenty of water available........ first aid........, bikes to get to the top??????????!!!!!!!!!!
12/07/2005 at 20:23
As I recall from last year, there's water at 5k, also at the start and finish. It was very warm last year too and sadly no bikes to get to the top....but you could always hold on to a faster runner and see if they would pull you along behind you without noticing...
