Hello

I am going to enter this marathon. Has anyone done it in the past? Going to do it this year as well?

All signed up for the marathon looking forward to it.

Did it last year and hope to do again this year. I can highly recommend.

Did it in 2010 - enjoyed it, parked at Stonehenge and caught the bus to the start at Avebury.  Nice run, first half hillier, but nice countryside, second half undulating, but on the plain, but can get sore underfoot with miles of chalk paths.

May do it this year - if Marlborough Challange is not on ...

Thanks Jim. It will be my first full marathon so it's nice to hear that you can recommend. Wanted one close to home so don't have to travel far to get home afterwards.

That's what I have done running bench. Asked for parking at Stonehenge so can go back to car without fuss afterwards. looking forward running through the countryside.

I would recommend cushioned shoes, light trail or road.

Food was nice afterwards and had free entry into Stonehenge too - although I was not bothered, but nice touch.  Just got the flier through the post today.

Was nice to be close to the car and then home in 45 mins too.

Hold back on the first half as the hills could build up lactic acid quite quickly, but then enjoy the second as you fly along!  Or do what I did, blat the first half and crawl the second .

Thanks for the advise RB. I have brooks glycerine and they are comfy so hopefully feet will be happy . Yes will train for the hills in the first half. Did Salisbury half last year and it was quite hilly. And after running royal parks half in london before...

Will try not to get too carried away as it will be a PB anyway so main target is to finish.

I'll probabaly do it as Stonehenge is just up the road from me so only a 15 min drive home at the end. Too good to miss.

I agree millsy. It's only 20 mins from me

Ive just signed up, it looks like an interesting run. Hope there arent too many hills.

DC3. Oh yes there are hills!

Climb just after the start, then a big climb onto Sailsbury plain at about 10, then undulating to the finish.

Just start easy. The great thing is to be constantly passing walkers who are doing the same route.

I may do the Canix half marathon with my owner.

It has been a frustration of mine that this is always only a week before the Marlborough Downs Challenge, very close, but a completely different course and 33 miles. This year I have decided to relieve my frustrations by doing both of the "two top distance runs in Wiltshire". I will regret it halfway through the MDC, but it will also be great training for multiday events!

You will be fine Richie, you are faster than me and I di North Dorset Village Mara a week before Marlborough (and then a marathon relay along the Wessex Ridgeway the week after!) just take it easy on one of them!

Looking at entering the half.

Anyone know if this fills up? Or would I be ok entering in April?
I'm running both Brighton and London this year, so hopefully come out the other side not injured to keep on racing.

Looks like a really good race. Also looking at Marwell 10k the weekend after.

I've done the half a few times. I don't think it ever fills up - there's never that many of us on the start line. Cut off date for registration is 22nd April, but if you enter before 18th March it is £5 cheaper.

 I think it's a great trail marathon .

Hi ultra waccyracer

I have never done this marathon ( or any other for that matter) but it looks like a very nice route and it's close to home so I can get df3 home quickly afterwards

Feel free to say hi.
