I wouldn't say Stratford was a figure of 8.

At the end of the Greenway, you go left and rejoin the outward route back along Evesham Road and then retrace the route. The views are nice, but having seen them once along the way, having to see them again would be a killer and trust me, the Greenway from Long Marston to Stratford is soul destroying just doing it the once! Rail lines tended to be straight in those days! (Where are the thatched cottages along the route?)

Someone must know the man in green!

Morning everyone

Got back from wales last night after having an extented break with the family. Well i didn't get the time i was after obviously not enough hill work done in training, but i did have a great time despite the weather again and it was good to meet some of you guys during the race and afterwards in padarn lake.

Trex- thanks for recomending the vaynol arms, we spent the last 2 nights in there enjoying good food and great beer.

I wasn't sure about doing this again next year as it is a 600 mile round trip and my poor kids have been like drowned rats for the last 2 years waiting for me to finish, but there is something about this race that makes you want to keep coming back. How many of this years formites are going back next year ?

Not next year RR, but I feel I will be back...

....and I thought the man with the green jacket was only supporting me..... lol! He was great..he gave some really uplifting positive advice... he shouted at me to keep my rhythm going just like it was...and that I was going well, and it really helped my confidence

.....and I'm glad someone said he kept turning up because I was beginning to think i was getting de ja vu....

Well done everyone!

Incase you missed it!!

S4C website has a video of the events coverage at;

A good way of showing friends and family what the weather was like!

Tre - I've done Stratford a couple of times and many don't like the greenway but it's dishpan flat after a climb so the last 6 are just fine for me. I never tire of the scenery seeing something new each time - the thatched cottages are before the main hill , through long marston and dotted occasionally through the course.  the course is two laps the second longer or at least different as you only run the full greenway once.

It's like marmite - love it or hate it especially the greenway. i don't mind and it's local. Nice weather too often very sunny.

I'm in for next year RR  and a few others have already entered.

Is it too early for a list T Rex, ducks to avoid FR

28/10/2009 at 11:40

I would say it is never to early for a list Tom S !

I am begining to weaken already about coming back next year, what will i tell the kids, i promised them it would be sunny this year.

RR - forecast is good for next year!

I did the Shakespeare Half last year in prep for this years full Marathons, and it uses a lot of my local training routes. I must admit the Greenway is now so tedious, that I'd rather extend a run than to route down it!

Must admit, I hadn't noticed the thatched cottages along the way out of Welford.

tre4 stop selling stratford so hard..anyone would think you're being paid by them
28/10/2009 at 13:36
Hark whos talking you were selling the HP 40 the other year I seem to remember and I still have unfinished business there.
28/10/2009 at 13:45

I'm selling it ! tre4 is depressed by the greenway -  the first year I did it the weather weeks before had been raining and cold so on the day everyone dressed for the rain that had been expected. However after an hour the sun came out and it was the hottest day of the year up till then,  the final flat 6 miles of the greenway looed like the retreat from Moscow - people walking, sitting , discarded euipment , energy belts, coats hats gloves. I could have been made for euipmnet for years had I collected it all!

I'll do Stratford as it's local , lots of people I known haven't got into VLM , I'll be looking for more LDWA events next year too. I enjoyed Robin Hood marathon this year so I'll do that in September too. it's making the time for these marathons.

RR - If I'm able to run there's no way I'd miss it.
28/10/2009 at 16:07
Lol Jason.

RR, you made the S4C coverage twice, tell the family you are a star in Wales and have to come back.

I enjoyed the greenway at Stratford (it's offroad) and I can confirm Mike is not (too) mad and there are pretty thatched cottages on route.

Signing off on 2009. Thanks for the banter and advice, it's been an absolute pleasure. Good luck to all those coming back next year, and to those moving on to pastures new. FF, the tri threads don't know what's about to hit them.

Daymion- I watched it today, i didn't realise they were still filming when i came ambling in, i thought they would have packed up and gone home by then. My plan of following a local farmer paid off , fame at last. Good luck in OZ next year, don't forget to keep posting on here.
