Seriously tired but elated by my 4.38 in my first ever marathon.

Unbelievable experience added to by the risk of being run over most the way around and the strange non appearance of the gels/energy bars. Would I do it again? Probably not, remember it for the fabulous day it was. Well done to all

Well done to everyone.  Mrs C & I were both late withdrawals due to injuries but came down for the weekend anyway as we'd already paid a deposit on the B&B.

We stood in the wind and rain in the middle of nowhere between Bedgelert & Rhyd Du.  Gave everyone of you a cheer.  It was tough going stood in those conditions so running for several hours in it was an awesome achievement.  Well done!

Some great times everyone - well done!

I really enjoyed the day. Set off a bit slower than last year with the intention of doing sub-4 due to the lack of training (only 2x16 and a 19 in training) due to injury. and also to avoid getting to Beddgelert knackered like last year! Really struggled from 18 miles to Waunfawr then seemed to recover a bit and seemed to gain places uphill and then had a really strong downhill to finish in 3:46:34, pretty much the same as last year. Will be back next year, hopefully better trained and injury-free to have a crack at that 3:30.

Absolutely loved it.  Course PB by over 50 minutes.

3:59 'gun' 3:58 'chip' - great day at the office.

Hope to be back next year.

Well done everyone - looking forward to watching you all on the telly later.

Off to the 2012 thread now .............................................

Right, just got back. S4C set up, but sadly we have no translator!

Many thanks for all the kind words. It was fantastic to see so many forumites yesterday, and well done to you all. Great to run some of the way with JD and Bionic as well.

My game plan was to aim for a 3:20 and hopefully a top 5 ladies placing. Possibly a 3:15 if things were going well.

Result: 3:12:06 (haven't looked at the official results yet), and I won't say any more otherwise it'll spoil a cracking story on S4C.

Upshot is that the placing is immaterial: I had the race of my life.

As ever, I was wearing a knackered old gilet to protect from that ferocious wind. Which meant that the zip was going up and down like a tart's knickers every time I heard the TV crew coming so that my race number was visible!!

JB: I think that was just about the first time I have ever gagged grinning as well. That St John's lady insisted on stuffing some chocolate in my gob, with disasterous results!! So I'm convinced I have dregs of choc around my mouth for the TV interview. But don't worry: there'll be another epic lesson of how not to eat a gel with soaked woolly gloves

30/10/2011 at 21:07
Going over to 2012 thread. Guess I will see everyone there..... Byeeeeeeeeeee
30/10/2011 at 21:08
Rou- lol- Know what you mean about the chocolate shoved in your mouth- that was one reason that I was pulling that face behind you while you were being interviewed

I'm looking forward to watching the highlights when they are up on Clic.

Right. I couldn't work out in advance how to get round in 5h, because I didn't have splits from last year and I had to resort to PLUMMETING down the last mile or so. But if anybody is planning to run in 5h, and they want to compare their plans with my experience, these are the splits for this year.

The fleet of foot can look away now.
Unless they wish for advice on how to get slower, I suppose.
Anyway.

Ahem.

9.57, 9.54, 11.07, 12.43, 13.10, 8.32, 9.09, 9.25, 11.28, 9.59, 10.19, 10.44, 11.01, 11.57, 13.04, 11.12, 11.31, 10.52, 11.15, 10.52, 11.12, 11.54, 17.27, 16.04, 11.54, 10.02 (and last bit: 7.53).

Notes:
1. My Garmin has me standing still for 7 minutes of the 4.59. This is a result of my one-handed fumbling with gels and is probably not necessary.
2. I didn't actually walk until 22 Miles. Yes, I am skilled at running very, very slowly. But this is still faster than me walking - I seem to walk like a particularly unfocussed tortoise, - that's OK because it means that my slow running is still quicker than walking

Alas, next year there's a clash between SNOD and the Preston Guild Marathon the day after, and I am very, very torn about which to do. I know that some of you will say "do both" and I say to them (with great respect), ouch.

30/10/2011 at 22:15
Another great snod marathon and I have had a fantastic month, set my pb at Chester of 3:12:19 then beat last years snod time by a mere 1 hour 5 mins finishing in time of 3:35:33, well done to everyone who finished in lovley weather conditions, I will defo be back next year
