12TH JULY 2005
well done Mrs J .that tenby course is hot and that weather is very harsh.....
did the bike sportive on the saturday and the last 30 miles were a killer.....the tarmac was melting and sticking to the tyres........not enough drinks stations for the weather.....
the last station at 102 miles i just lay down pouring water over myself for 10 mins.......before being forced to tackle the last 10 miles which included the wisemans climb and the saundersfoot climb........
I do not do well in heat.........
Cheers WA.. Would like to do that one this year. Hope your injury doesn't last long.
Enjoy your weekend away Tracey. Sounds lovely. How many of you are cycling?
Sue - enjoy your celebrations too.
Seren - well done on your bike ride. It was too hot last weekend.
Swim for me this morning and a short run tonight.
Blimey Seren, that sounds harsh!
Had to go to Cardiff yesterday so went for a nice long swim instead of a run. Did about a mile and felt good. Got home and was persuaded to go for a short run anyway. Wasn't too bad in the woods though, felt a bit cooler than the weekend,
The long range forecast is for more and more of this nonsense, it seems endless.
Just realised you asked a question Nutty - six of us are going, same as for Lon Las Cymru.
sounds brilliant Tracey.better weather this time for you.........
I keep on wanting to spend an afternoon in the garden getting rid of my comedy tan lines but I just seem too busy
Morning all we were talking to a few people who did the sportive Seren and they really struggled with the heat.
Might venture out for a tentative run this evening just to see how my calf is doing, I'm pretty sure its o.k as all I've been doing is lugging heavy boxes and furniture up and down stairs all week with no ill effects
Still haven't exchanged contracts and we're all packed up and ready to move this Friday our solicitor keeps snatching the cheques off us and assuring us its all going to plan but we won't believe it until we have the keys in our hands
Stressful time selling houses - keep calm and hope for the best Jones
Some seriously hard eventing for you guys over these last few hot days - top stuff!
I have done a lot of work on roofs as a youngster off a cat ladder - don't like them and will opt for scaffold every time! I do have a tower Kev - which is part of my problem! The scaffolder I use can put me up a scaffold saddling the chimney stack for £300 + VAT - I have two chimneys and can't claim the VAT back for work on the house... Using my tower I have safely painted one of the cables up to the chimney tray (eves height) leaving just the chimney stack - £700 is a lot for about 10 square foot of painting!
I might just leave the stacks unpainted at that rate! Scaffold is always useable here, so purchasing £700 of scaffold makes more sense to me than renting it.
You are spot on regarding third party liability Alex - especially in terms of me providing kit for others to use... I wouldn't go near that option! When I get contractors in - they are the 'professionals' so they have to use their professional judgement on how they do the job safely and have to answer to HSE if they get it wrong.
Gorgeous weather for painting outdoors though
Hmm, I don't know many houses built with cables...... now a house having a gable is a different thing!
...think maybe I have been out in the sun too long!
Evening all I'm afraid evening run was abandoned as we have finally exchanged contracts Whoo Hoo so we went for a beer instead
Excellent news Jones - good luck. Hope Mrs Jones is recovering well.
Tracey - you will have a great time. This is crazy weather. From one extreme to another.
Never a dull moment with you Boffin.
How is the injury WA?
Short run in the heat for me today....
Did we decide on a date for a pie fest? Would September be better?
I will eat pie any time
£700 is not a lot for your life as you should know having had one nasty fall Boffin.
And well done the Jones !
Why does the chimney need painting anyway? Will it stop it falling off or rotting? Are you likely to want to sell the house in the near future?
Got youngest off on her week's holiday last night, just got to go to work, shopping, host book group tonight, sort food out for the kids and sort the bikes out. Then it's a weekend of cycling, drinking, eating and laughing. Whoo hoo!
Nice one Tracey - I have a weekend in store of drinking eating and laughing - missing out the cycling bit. Apparently my brother has organised a Hog roast! He has also booked a band - I hope he has either invited the neighbours or apologised in advance!
Too true Alex, once bitten forever shy with me! - Chimney can stay in it's moss encrusted glory for me Tracey... after all one of them has been like that for the last few decades at least!
I am with Alex, any time is a good pie time... Mmmmmmm Pie
How is the foot Alex?
Great news on your contract exchange Jones - defo good reason to celebrate especially in these turbulent house buying times.
We have no intention of ever selling this place Tracey, but then we said that about our last home in Caerphilly - so who knows? Not sure how we would expand on this though... an island maybe? - Then again if I did fall off something again and end up in a wheelchair, that would pretty much do it - leave alone all risky stuff I say
....now where did I put that cotton wool?...
Morning everyone, lots going on I see!
Depending on the the time I get later it should be a 10k run for me after work which is my last run before a very heavy weekend I guess as tomorrow morning I am off to bournemouth on a stag weekend with a load of mates.
Will be missing my long slow run this weekend, and will hopefully get back out for a run on Tuesday, should be fighting fit by then I hope.
Doctors for me today though, been deaf as a post in both ears this week due to some sort of ear infection (seems to have started when hay fever kicked in, which until recently I havent suffered with for many years). Saw a nurse yesterday who told me my ears were both blocked up (as I thought) so she cleaned them both out which has improved earing a lot, but still not right at all. Got a feeling I will be getting anti-biotics so cant really start those until Monday. Oh well, dont want to moan as it could be worse! (yesterday before "syringing" I was almost 100% deaf in both ears, was very worried about that, now I feel like I need to pop my ears, but cant)
Have fun everyone
Simon - bad news about ears. Hope they are sorted soon. Enjoy your weekend away.
Boffin - the chimney will be there for another day. No rush.
Enjoy your time away Tracey.
Sue enjoy your celebrations too.
Jones - hope everything goes through for you soon.
WA - how is the foot?
Swim this morning and a run this evening. Was really enjoying run then hit the flat for last couple of miles home and lost it. It was too hot ...
Well, we are having something of a summer - about time too!
I cycled to my writing group (took the long way cos it was so nice out there), then cycled down to the environment centre this evening for a craft swap. As Tracey said, travelling by bike is much more enjoyable than cars.
Why on earth was I wibbling about retiring?
